What do you guys thik about 1UP's protest?Vishvanath

I like how they support their fellow reviewers.

Anyways I doubt there is any animosity between rivaling sites anyways... They probably see each other in other gaming events and such.

It shows that this is a issue for the industry as a whole too. Reviewers shouldn't be fired for honest reviews!

BTW they are what 2 blocks away?

My publication has sounded off on this topic, but we tried to stear clear too much on commenting on the GameSpot situation itself. To quote the article:

"This article, however, is not an exposé or look into what really happened at GameSpot this week. Rather, consider this a look at the direction of gaming journalism, advertising, and how this all plays a role in the content you read. "

Enjoy. Adverjournalism: The Role of Ad Dollar in Journalism

I'm reading you stuff.

I think previews are usually optimistic no matter what and try to remove any negative judgements for the most part. Perhaps they are trying to gain positive attention from publishers, I don't know.

But a lot of reviews from many positively previewed games are no longer optimistic because they are at their final retail version.

Otherwise, nice read. I recommend others to read it.

[QUOTE="ManILoveSony"]Lets all go to 1up and make accounts and post on their forums. Because they are awesome.M1X

Done and Done...

I actually started from 1UP and migrated to GS in 2006. Damn... I'm gonna stay here and support the editors, must be the most stressful and confusing weekend for them.

Gamespot will never say why they fired Jeff. They will just wait and hope that we all forget about it and move on.ManILoveSony

I don't think the editors and reviewers will forget this.

It probably scarred them for life.

I looked on Destructoid, and they have a picture of Ziff Davis (a.k.a. the 1up staff) rallying outside C-Net with a sign that says, "We support our fellow game reviewers!" They now officially own.WeAreToast

Them owning wasn't their point. (Though I bet you know already)

The industry as a whole is effected by this incident. They support Jeff, GS editors as fellow game journalists.

Helps that they were only 2 blocks away too!

[QUOTE="animateria"]

Nope. Those scores were reviewed by the review board.

AND those scores were correct in the eyes of the reviewers.

FANBOY opinions don't matter.

Edit: Why does my writings seem to mislead nowadays... Was not directed at you man....

---n00b_kid---

I amNOT debating the scores!!! I am just stating that Jeff not only defended his score of 6.0 for Kane & Lynch, but he probably had to defend scores of other games reviewed by other editors.

Meh... You are probably right but those scores weren't low enough for defense. And they both didn't have that lame excuse that CNET seems to use, the "tone" of the reviews weren't harsh.

GS and many review sites defend their right to review scores (unless it is their internal mistake) it isn't uncommon.

Its pathetic that Jeff got fired for a review.

[QUOTE="bonk"]

If CNET doesn't provide a really good explanation I am cutting my subscription!

I suggest you all do the same. It's kind of lame to pay for advertisement texts. Which is what every article on CNET might be if the pressure firing from Eidos is true.

Grasschomperpro

They wont give a reasonable explanation. So far the small statements they have realesed are the total opposite of what most ppl think (that jeff was fired for giving Kane & Lynch a 6.0). They say that he was not fired because of this yet they dont elaborate as too why.

The timing is despicable! Right after the final Nov. Review push!

They just wanted to work his ass off then fire him!

[QUOTE="WARxSnake"]so Tim Tracey and Vinny are leaving as well? Gamespot is sucking more and more by the minute.fishingalex

When did Vinny say he was leaving?

He said he felt like hiding for 2-3 months I think... Doesn't mean he will do it, just that it felt that way.
