In my experience, yes - and even the cheapest set of component cables you can get can give you a remarkable improvement. I have a Sony Bravia KD-23S2010 HDTV. It does a pretty good job of handling fairly low rez video sources, but PS2 looked so horrible, I shelved it for months. In full screen mode, I could barely read the blurred text of SOCOM II. Playing Resident Evil 4 for any length of time really strained my eyes. I hooked up component cables and even with the stretched fullscreen, SOCOM II looks sharp, and RE4 is good. I can actually enjoy my PS2 again.

I guess what he's looking for is an RPG that follows the Western pen & paper RPG tradition of allowing the player total control over the character versus the Japanese video game RPG tradition of pre-developed characters following a carefully scripted storyline (Neverwinter Nights vs Final Fantasy). In that case, I think the personal computer is the best platform for this. Or maybe he's looking for a western themed RPG then, something that doesn't have Japanese cultural story elements. Is there a console RPG that is like Neverwinter Nights and playable online by the way, something that works on the PSTwo?

Is it that we want Resident Evil on PSP, or is it that we want a really good zombie survival game for PSP? I've always had mixed feelings about RE just cause it's not the pure zombie game that Dead Rising (Xbox 360) is. I also always found the controls wonky. A RE4 styled RE would be wonderful, but I'd really really like a pure zombie game myself.

How silver is this silver? Would you say it's more like a video component like a typical consumer DVD player, or is it the dull plasticky silver of my Nintendo DS?

PS2 is outdated and needs to be cheaper. There are no games coming out and all the attention is on the PS3 and the next gen consoles......who buys a last gen console brand new????rddflag
People who want to play a lot of different games while waiting for the new generation to mature a bit more and yield more releases would buy a last generation console. As a collector, I might do it just as a last hooray providing that the latest PSTwo offers anything new over my PSTwo. Also, there are new major PS2 releases coming. I would like to see the price drop a little more though, or perhaps a special package at a $130 price point such as a console plus game and memory card.

As other have said, there is a huge library of good games for you to play, many of which were exclusives. Also, there are new titles slated for release such as Transformers, Raiden III, TMNT, Spider-Man III, Manhunt 2, Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer, etc.; so there are new games to look forward to. Even better, you can get a lot of good PS2 games at discounted prices. If you do get a PS2, get component cables for it too. The better video quality will make the PS2 look less antiquated next to your 360.
