I was on Gametap TV, checking out their Tomb Raider retrospective, and I came across the animated Sam & Max episodes. Having never seen them, and the fact that I could just watch them without having to do anything else, I thought "why the hell not".
While it wasn't more than chuckle fodder, the dialogue was witty, and Max was instantly a hit with me. Plus the fact that the two are such opposites that balance each other out makes them an excellent duo. I plan to watch more episodes later on.
I then remembered all those game episodes that had been released a while back, and how I'd always wanted to try them, but, being the PC virgin that I am, didn't think there would be a demo (yes, I am that uneducated about PC gaming). Anyway, I saw that, yes there was a demo for the first episode.
Brilliant, and with a 71MB file size, it wouldn't take forever to download. 10 minutes later, I started it up.
The intro was really stylish, and I really dig that visual direction. The opening convo between the two was witty, and enjoyable, and set up the little demo nicely.
I have never played a point-and-click game before, so I was a bit lost at first. I was clicking on everything, but still enjoying the banter. I soon worked out the puzzle, found it oh so satisfying, and went on to the ended of the demo, and it just.....ended..
It was a huge lurch, and I was worried it would end like that, but I'm changed after it.
Before, I wouldn't care much for PC gaming as my previous impressions were that it was just FPSs, RTSs, and MMORPGs, but now, this demo has really made me rethink my stance, and I am now desperate to get the full, first episode. And for $8.95?!?! Wow!
I also generally like more innovative or stylistically unique products, and Sam & Max is just that, well, at least in my eyes, and the smooth tunes, and excellent dialogue definitely makes me excited to see what the rest of the episode, and season, has in store!
