There is no doubt PC hardware will get stronger and stronger as every year goes by, but its the fact that the games are not keeping pace. That is whyI beleive when PS4 does come out we are going to see a "sling shot" of graphics getting much much much better finally meetiong on par with what hardware can do today.

You're theory leaves out an important factor: cost. The reason pc games aren't keeping up with pc hardware isn't just because the consoles limiting them, it's because the cost of producing games at today's standard is already so high that many games never make a profit. Why would they want to spend even more time and money on a game, especially on a platform which tends to have many of its potential sales lost to piracy? When the next console generation rolls around, you can reasonably expect native 1080p as standard, 30-60 fps (because 60 really doesn't make a difference in some types of games) with 3d support. Most of the improvement will be in things like draw distance, effects like lighting and shadows, aa, etc. PC hardware will be capable of a lot more by that time, but most pc games won't really push too terribly harder than what consoles are putting out, with the end result being that the hardware needed to play the majority of pc games will be dirt cheap.
Yeah I understand where you are coming from. SCII cost $100 million to produce plus marketing costs on top of that.
However, just like we have hardware advances over time wewill become better at software developement over time. More efficient programming techniques that reduces the time to programme and develop game engines will be found. The fancy tech (motion tracking devices on humans and scanning faces etc) devs use to make games realisticwill be cheaper. Animation packages like 3ds Max and Maya improve and allow more efficient pipelines etc....
I just think hardware advances quicker than software.
Publishers want to sell as many units as possible. So they won't release games with ridiculous min requirements... andyeah port to consoles easily.
I think 2011 we will see a noticeable improvement in PC graphics. How long can devs ignore the advancement in PC hardware while waiting for next- gen consoles?
Whew after all that I think PS4 and Xbox 720 graphics will be of Ice Age/Toy Story 2 quality (Think TS 3 would be pushin' it).
