Other than the the first time MS attempted cross platform play with PC, (which all but blew up in their face) they have always been interested in allowing for cross console play. People seem to forget Final Fantasy XI was cross platform between the MS and Sony consoles.

I'm fine with waiting a year for the GOTY edition.

Too pessimistic to not think it'll be sold out and scalped just like before...
