Jf, I haven't played the original game, but I played IW back in the day. To be honest, I really don't see where all the hate for the second game is coming from.

It's a good game, not poop on a stick like some people portrait it. There are some truly great gameplay elements in it and the story is interesting enough to keep you going til the end.

I agree on the ending though. It sucks donkey balls. I was totally let down by all the PMS'y alternative endings and by the fact that all you had to do to see each one was simply choose who you want to help in the end, even when you've worked against that faction before. I felt that my earlier choices in the game didn't mean ****. The point of having choices throughout the game is kinda eh... pointless then.

Welcome to the club. HL is one of the most overhyped games of all time if you ask me. It's mediocre compared to SS2 (which is better in almost every department, incl storytelling) and a bunch of great modern shooters.

I don't care what it did for the genre back in the day, it just isn't all that good by today's standards. Imo. Great storytelling... Lol.

The shaders setting affects more aspects of the graphics than any other setting, and I think it makes the game look significantly more photorealistic on high.

Even though I bash Oblivion any chance I get, I don't really care that F3 isn't like the old games. Not a huge fan of those either.
