New anime acquired recently by Cartoon Network's Adult Swim, and is scheduled to premiere Saturday, April 15th, 2006 at midnight. Developed by the collaboration of the well-known BANDAI Entertainment and the popular Japanese studio BONES, Eureka Seven is the best anime series I have seen yet. The story plot: Renton Thurston is your ordinary 14-year old teenager, with an ordinary life, but with dreams that will change his life forever. He lives with his grandfather mechanic at a backwater town, and every day, he looks up to his idol, Holland, a man with a great talent of handling a hoverboard, in which they refer the sport as "reffing," and his father, who has an acclaimed past in the military of being a hero. He also dreams of joining a "Light Finding Operation (LFO)" pilot team group "Gekkostate," where he can enjoy the extreme sport. But one ordinary day, an LFO referred to as the Nirvash typeZERO, arrives at his grandfather's workhouse, and the pilot of it is a young girl, whose name is Eureka. She tells them that her LFO is in need of a tune-up, but Renton's grandfather had a suspicion of who she might be working for. But for Renton, Eureka's arrival changed his life forever. The "Amita Drive," as Renton's grandfather refers to it, is said to awaken the full potential of the LFO, and he orders Renton to give it to Eureka. But his actions decide his fate, and eventually made his dream come true. Eureka invites him to join the "Gekkostate" after the fight with the military LFO's, and Renton is extremely excited to accept her offer. But he soon realizes the harsh effects between reality and fantasy. Will his dream actually become what he always wanted it to be? The music: The well-known ANIPLEX and Sony provide the music. The music in the series is well-composed and written, as well as the music during the episode. The opening theme, "Days" by FLOW (also sang for NARUTO), is absolutely something that anyone would listen to for hours. Good music is one major component of a successful series, and the soundtracks of Eureka Seven have exceeded the expectations. The animation: The animation is well-done and well-detailed, and it is something that I would expect from the famous BONES Studio of Japan. Along with the collaboration of BANDAI, the concept of Eureka Seven has a well-written script. The characters: The characters, each and every one of them, have their own unique personality. For example, Renton Thurston's smart, yet funny, or Eureka's odd, yet curious. Their appearance also is well-detailed, and Renton's idea of Eureka's good-looks is something that I probably think is true. The mecha design is also well-detailed, and the Nirvash typeZERO represents that. In my opinion, Eureka Seven has exceeded my expectations of a well-done balanced group of characters. The voices: The choice of US voice actors is accurate. Renton's teenage voice represents his well-developing teenage mind, and Eureka's voice gives her solid personality. The final verdict: Overall, Eureka Seven exceeds my expectations. Good choice of voice actors, a well-written plot, detailed animation and artwork, and addictive soundtracks. It is something that I would expect as an anime otaku. With that, I give Eureka Seven my top honor of 10 stars out of 10 stars. I simply believe that you should watch this, and this will make up for the recent ending of Fullmetal Alchemist, and Neon Genesis Evangelion. For that, I congratulate Cartoon Network for acquiring such a series. I expect a strong future for Eureka Seven.
