I'm gonna be getting a slim soon, but I have a couple questions for people who already got a slim. 1: what software update does it come with out of the box? ie. version 2.3 or 3.01 2: does the slim come with the component cables for an HD TV?

Mine came with version 3.00( got it sep 11), and no it comes with standard component cables.

gt it at launch, then got a slim couple weeks ago.

mine makes noise when loading games, but it is dead silent when playing dvds(ps3 slim)

Hey guys, I was just wondering what advantages/disadvantages the slim ps3 has over the original one. I'm fed up with MS and their dodgy console so have decided to sell up and convert to the ps3 so need to know which is the best value for money and ultimately the best choice.Hitchy9

120gig hardrive(always replaceable)

Cons: No glossy finish

Pros: ps3

80 gig hardrive(replaceable)

Cons: big.

They are the same in many ways. i recomend getting the slim just because it is the newer model. idk my opinion.

if anyone wants a slim to have a glossy finish. just buy a skin from decagirl.com, their skins have that glossy finish

IDK why people say the slim looks ugly. It looks great! I am personally am a fan of the slim sleek look, i hate the bulky look(but i like the piano black). Each console looks great in a different way but to say that one looks bad is absurd!

I am an owner of both consoles, actually my ps3 "fat", just broke, 2 weeks ago, and bought a new slim. AND I'M LOVING IT!. it does not over heat, and it is so quiet, it makes audio quality seem better!
