PS3 HDD drive wiped

Yup, my PS3's hard drive had some corrupted data on it, and in order to start the system properly (ie. to be able to play games), my hard drive had to be wiped. Yipee. About 5 months of gaming, and trophies, gone. Well I guess on the plus side, I get the incentive to go back to MGS4 and get some of the more prestigious emblems, and my PSN account and the Firmware 2.42 remain, which is good. Sorry guys, had to rant about this somewhere :P

First Trophy!

I got my first trophy just the other day, I was so proud :)

5 headshots in a row on Uncharted, Bronze... I'm surprised I managed to restrain myself from taking a picture and framing it

It's not as refined as the Achievements system, mainly due to lack of support at the moment, but it definitely shows promise, and the bronze, silver, gold and platinum thing is a nice touch. I like the way it pops up in the corner congratulating you, although this can be VERY distracting if you're in the middle of an action sequence. Overall though, i'm happy :P

Back in the UK

Hey guys, I'm back from Gibraltar, and am now in the UK again (even though Gibraltar is technically part of the UK) so will be posting in all of your unions and blogs again. I might even upload some photos at some point...Ash

Leaving GS for a week

Starting tomorrow, I'll be leaving GS for a week, because I'm going on holiday, so I won't be posting on your blogs or in any unions or forums. I'll make sure to catch up on everything as soon as I get back :)

Cheers, Ash.

Sony PSP. Should I?

Of late, I've been thinking of buying a PSP. Not for it's flashiness, or ability to play movies or any of that, it's just some of the games look fantastic. Games I'm interested in buying are...

Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops (main selling point for me)
GTA Vice City/Liberty City Stories
Killzone: Liberation
Gun:Showdown

So if there are any PSP owners out there, could you please give me your opinions, and tell me any other useful info I should know.

Cheers. Ash.

Some of my Favourite Movies

I thought I'd post some of my favourite movies.

From Dusk Till Dawn - THE funniest twist I have seen in a film to date. Has to be seen to be believed.

The Usual Suspects - An intense story and twist make this otherwise rather routine crooks n cops film a classic.

Pulp Fiction - Just plain fun. John Travolta and Samuel L Jackson steal the show in equal parts.

Trainspotting - Weird, quirky, and British.

Back to the Future - I actually never saw this as a kid, but as a teenager, I realised the genius of this film.

Fight Club - Slighty simple and easy to guess twist, but a fun film nontheless

City of God - Story of a young photographer in the drug addled slums of Rio de Janeiro. It's funny, charming and tragic, often all within the same 5 minutes.

Shaun of the Dead - Simon Pegg excels with this classic, that isn't only side-splittingly funny, but also a decent enough zombie film.

Psycho - The shocking twist that occured at around the 30minute mark has been ruined now by pop culture, but it's still the ultimate slasher movie.

Metal Gear Solid 3 Boss Battle - The End

Just been playing through my old PS2 games of late, when I come across Metal Gear Solid 3, probably my favourite PS2 game. I've been happily playing through it and have now hit a brick wall, in the form of a Boss Battle called 'The End'. This is so damn hard! I remember the first two times i completed the game I accidentally scrambled across the guy and pointed a gun at his back to disarm and then kill him. But now, I can't find him, can't kill him, food stocks are running low, and basically, I'm screwed. Any tips from anyone?

Super Smash Bros Brawl is Mine!

After months of waiting, a neatly packaged parcel containing Super Smash Bros Brawl arrived today, and boy what a game it is. It has made drastic improvements on the other two games, with a bigger roster of characters, more stages and a mode called Subspace Emissary, in which a whole host of Nintendo characters battle to stop Bowser, King Dedede, Wario, Ganondorf, etc from turning all of the key characters to stone to use as trophies. As well as battling, this mode also features some platforming, which adds some welcome diversity. The roster is fantastic, featuring characters from the Zelda series, the Mario series, the Metroid series, The Fire Emblem series, and even Sonic and Solid Snake (neither of which I've managed to unlock yet :P). Every character has it's own stage, bar R.O.B. the robot, giving well over 20 stages to fight in (including the rather pointless Pictochat stage). This game is awesome, and definitely worth the wait :D. I'll post my friend code in my sig. when I figure out how to access it:P.

Was Raiden really all that bad?

Sure when we discovered that in MGS2 we wouldn't be able to play as Snake right off the bat, we were annoyed. I was anyway, sorry to speak for you guys there :P

But after I got over the initial shock, Raiden's story started to get more interesting, and his agility often came in handy, being able to hot foot away from guards faster and cartwheel over gaps is never a bad thing. And to prove he really isn't that much of a woman, he manages to take down between 3-20 Metal Gears, depending on your skill level. In a different way to Snake, he's a bit of a badass in his own right! There's this quote I heard once that describes the guy perfectly... 'Dude may look like a lady, but he's alright by me.'.
