I side with Tom on this, particularly based on Chris's closing arguments. Games like Ico and Journey pulled me into their world without photo realistic graphics. Any skilled animator can convey emotion without the use of real-as-life facial expressions. Body movement, writing, atmosphere, and music can all have a strong emotional effect. Innovation in graphics helps to propel the industry forward, (along with innovations and improvements in game play, AI, and writing, etc.), but that innovation is not limited to the most realistic or complex graphics.
@magicalclick You've really used "high end" and "low end" in a rather mindless way here. For example, what exactly is a "low end story"? A bad one? A bad story can be found in low or high budget games. Same with control. It seems You're just using "high end" and "low end" in place of good and bad. Again, you can find good and bad elements on all levels of game production, and that has little to do with the debate here.
