Deadly Premonition does have some good aspects about it's story, gameplay, and ambitions, but one of the best aspect about it is that it is a B game: and it knows it!
Rather than try to hide that its awkward due to budget and time constraints, Deadly Premonition actually embraces the awkwardness and uses it as an advantage. Not only are the characters and cutscenes more memorable just because of how bizarre they're carried out, but the awkwardness actually works hand in hand with the mystery component. Your not just going through to see how the plot turns out, but also to see what insane dialogue and moments the game throws out next. It's sort of like a guilty pleasure, but there's a clear intention in the game's design that it WANTS to confused you with its weirdness.
I actually would score it a 7/10 like Neo_Sarevok, but that's still honestly a good rating and I'd still recommend it. It has performance issues abound and a lot of bizarre mechanics that don't quite work well, and the frame rate is definitely a bit disappointing, but it's a weird and entertaining odyssey all the way through.
I can picture it now: there will be a deck of fishing cards, a system where you have to talk to yourself about movies from the 80's, a stinky agent penalty for not swapping clothes regularly, and the ability to go to a diner space to get a sandwich with cereal in it.
