The bottom line is that Crytek is bitter that their 30 million dollar budge game, the largest video game budget in history (Crysis) didn't sell well. And now they are crying (pun intended) and trying to blame it on piracy. But the reason Crysis didn't sell well is because the vast majority of PC gamers did not have PCs powerful enough to run it when it came out and the cost to upgrade was the same or less than the price of a new console. Plus the fact that the market is already overloaded with jungle type shooters meant that the game really isnt that interesting or exciting even if it is the best of the jungle shooters.

Roris0A

But yet the number of illegal downloads is huge. And with the demo out they sure weren't testing it out to see if their system could run it.

The number of illegal downloads of Crysis is not huge. They are generally in the same proportions to the sales numbers as any other game. Plus of course people that suspect their systems cant run it but want to see anyway are going to download it rather than buy it.

That's what is so funny about this whole thing, Crysis has built in piracy protection in that the majority of the people that did pirate the game don't even have setups powerful enough to play it!!

As I'm sure has already been said in this long thread... They are doing it for money only, meaning they are doing it because they know the vast majority of the gamming market is now on console and not PC. And they are just using that decision to take a shot at piracy and try to make it a headline. I'm sure piracy had almost nothing at all to do with this decision and this "statement" was created from them long after that decision had been made for other reasons.

People pirate console games too. Just do a search on any torrent site and look at all the 360 games out there. Yes it is a little harder to do because you have to mod your box but the main reason is that market is just way, way larger on consoles now.

foxhound_fox

263 million online PC gamers.

Only in NA is PC gaming less popular than console gaming.

You might want to take a trip to Japan and try to make that statement...

PC game sales started to fall when HD TVs and better consoles came out not when torrent sites came out. Thats like saying Napster killed audio CDs and thats not true at all. The iPOD killed audio CDs! You need to look at the big picture before you say dumb things.

No console was released in 2003 and they were certainly not up to par to what was available on PC. Lol on the ipod and napster comments but I am sure you are right they had no effect on CD sales, please do not go for that Business Management degree.

It did not just drop in 2003! Where did you dream this up? Its been on a steady decline and consoles have been on a steady increase! Plus PC game sales actually went up in 2006 from 2005. And there has been more money in console games than PC since 1998 and before!

US PC Game Software Sales
1998 - $1.8 billion
1999 - $1.9 billion
2000 - $1.78 billion (84.9 million units)
2001 - $1.75 billion (83.6 million units)
2002 - $1.4 billion (61.5 million units)
2003 - $1.2 billion (52.8 million units)
2004 - $1.1 billion (47 million units)
2005 - $953 million (38 million units)
2006 - $970 million

US Console & Handheld Game Software Sales
1998 - $3.7 billion
1999 - $4.2 billion
2000 - $4.1 billion (130.6 million units)
2001 - $4.6 billion (141.5 million units)
2002 - $5.5 billion (162.8 million units)
2003 - $5.8 billion (186.4 million units)
2004 - $6.2 billion (203 million units)
2005 - $6.1 billion (190.5 million units)
2006 - $6.5 billion

None of the theesa links work.

But the numbers I gave match the numbers you game within a .1 so are you going to say that data is wrong? I guess that means the figures you gave are wrong to? Give it up, you cant win this one. This is common knowledge. There was never a dramatic drop in PC games sales in 2003. And torrents have not caused even a measurable drop in PC sales. What has caused a measurable drop in PC games sales is better consoles and HD TVs. That mixed with people getting fed up with the hardware/ OS upgrade curve of PC gamming.

So you still can't provide any information on the decrease of hardware sales? I provided information on them going up and yet you still maintain that people were fed up with the upgrade curve when more people are upgrading than before. And yes the links on the webiste do not work so I will not believe them, in fact here is a link that works

PC sales increased from 2000 and 2001

This is 2008....2001 might as well be a century ago...

Yeah this guy does not seem to have a clue on earth what he is talking about. Pulling up data from 2001 to say what?

I guess I'm not far enough along to know what you mean. I will keep playing and see if I see what you are saying. But most games are repetitive. I think the entire HL2 series is extremely repetitive and got sooooooo tired of the gravity gun. I mean no mater what game there are only so many ways to kill a person. That's why good games rely on their story and environments too keep it fresh all the way through.

But again I'm only 2 hours in, I hope the story and environment does more for me that I guess it did for you because It will be disappointing if it gets boring.

So now that I have the audio fixed I have to say this is a pretty cool game. Other than the audio it runs really well on my computer and looks amazing. And I do not have anything that great. 4200+ X2 , X1900GT, 2 Gigs RAM.

I'm only about 2 hours into it but it has a really good story and after you get used to the controls its pretty cool. Kind of like Tomb Raider meets Hitman. I think its way better than games like Witcher. So far I would say it should have gotten better than a 8.5. Maybe an 8.8 or 8.9.
