It is outta warranty anyway.
He is the original owner and we didnt ever change the drive, just unplug it to paste cpu and graphics chips and re-install everything.
I was careful not to scratch the board antwhere etc...
Maybe buy a new drive and swap out the board inside? It is a 2008 one that has the Phillips drive. Never been flashed or anything.
What is the "knocking method"?
So I fixed my friends xbox, redid the thermal paste re-assembled. Green light...yeah!! Not so fast though games wont read now, but dvd's still will. What has happened?
No, I don't see any reason to change any other voltages. The only thing I would like to remedy though, is your perspective on the default voltage for the X4 955. It's not 1.5V; that's the maximum you should put it at. The default voltage for it is 1.35V.

Thanx for the reply, and the info. my asus only alotted 1.3 volts in auto mode, so far at 1.4 v it has not bsod'd all day, and 2 hrs prime 95. We will see what time will hold tho. Might be the 64 bit os that is troubling it.

I have unlocked the cpu to X4 and prime 95 stable for hours at a time. I get random crashes though when booting up or just anytime though. I had voltage to the cpu at 1.325.
I have read that the voltage for the Phenom II X2 555 is 1.4v and the voltage for thePhenom II X4 955 (which it is unlocked to) is 1.5v. Is the voltage too low caussing random crashes? I have turned the voltage up to 1.4 now. I just ran prime 95 for 90 min and with case fans and cpu fan on high, with a max temp of 48-49*c. With the fans all on medium it idles at 33*c and thats how it is right now while I type this in my house that is 75*f. Any help will be appreciated.
Oh also I got crashes when setting ram to 1600. The ram is rated at 1600 so it is not overclocked. I noticed mobo was setting it at 1.55v, and it is rated 1.65v so I turned it to 1.64 as only even values are ava. in bios. So far I am stable, but do I need to adjust any more values like nForce200 v, or HT v, orNB v etc...? thanx

Sorry bassman. Didnt mean to high-jack ur thread. How do you like your unlocked 555 btw?

Prime 95 tested for 3 hrs at a max temp of 58*c. I dont know much about this, but runs fine as far as I can see.
Yea...mine is stable as well. Ran both the AMD Overdrive Utility and Prime95 with no problems. Prime95 seems to stress the cpu more than AMD Overdrive though... Been running it with all the cores unlocked now for 5 months now and havent had any problems. The only thing I have noticed however, is that it has trouble coming outta sleep mode. Sometimes i get an "unable to enable unleashing mode" message and I have to reboot. Thats only if I put the computer in sleep mode however....and it only happens bout half the time. I dont really use sleep mode anyways, so its all good.I have heard from a few people that unlocking cores disables the ability to monitor vpu temps, but mine displays temp same as ever. That was a concern that I wouyld overheat it and not even know.
I dont know what has changed, but I was able to set my ram to 16oo, and change the timing to 7-8-7-24, as per the specs. I am here to type this so I guess it is working, although it took longer to get from blank screen to windows logo while booting. cpu-z mem says 800 now, but spd still shows nothing, why is that?
