Shaman King Episode 27: Dowsing Revolution

A boy with green hair is out on the prey. He takes down two men running and a man gambling with his crystal pendant. He wants stronger opponents… so he will be able to defeat Hao.

Sharon has decided to take on the boy with green hair. They throw Millie out to him. She falls and he helps her up. She blushes, but soon her friends have surrounded him. Their attack is nothing to the boy and he breaks their hold and refuses them. Sharon and the others run away mad, but Millie goes up to him, complete with her schoolgirl crush, and tells him that she knows of strong Shamans.

Ren heads over to the library to research Patch Village, but even with the Tao resources, there is still no trace of Patch Village. Yoh isn’t discouraged. He thinks it may be a puzzle that they need to solve.

The boy with green hair seeks out the one that Millie spoke of. He sees Ryu from a distance and introduces himself as Lyserg Diethel. He then asks Ryu to be his companion. Ryu is really confused and asks if he is a Shaman. He shows him his pendant with his spirit, Morphin, a pixie-like creature who is about the size of the crystal pendant. His special skill is dowsing, a technique which people use pendulums or metal to detect objects. Ryu smiles and thinks Lyserg is cute. He tells him to follow him and takes him to Yoh, all the while thinking Lyserg is a girl. Horo Horo is not impressed with Lyserg and breaks it to Ryu that Lyserg is a boy. Ryu gets embarrassed and admits his mistake… Ren is against it too.

Suddenly Lyserg attacks, ready to show his true self. Horo Horo accuses him or trying to destroy his rivals. Lyserg tells him that he’s wrong. He only wants strong companions. Eight years ago in London, his house burned down. A boy stands in the burning house telling him that if they had only listened to him. Lyserg explains that the boy killed his family, but must seek revenge. He attacks again with Homing Pendulum and Horo Horo Oversouls. Ren is tired of this and attempts to destroy the pendulum, but is defeated. Yoh walks over to the two lying on the ground. He tells the kid to move out of his way. He needs to take Ren and Horo Horo to a hospital. Lyserg gets mad and attacks Yoh from behind, but Yoh shatters his pendulum with little effort.

The boy is amazed that Yoh defeated him so easily, but Yoh isn’t about to play. Yoh informs him that he doesn’t want friends that hurt his friends. He and Ryu then help Ren and Horo Horo away. Lyserg is still throwing a fit and gets out his father’s crystal pendulum. He demands that Yoh fight him. Yoh tells him that fighting would be pointless. Lyserg then jumps and does Big Ben Wire Frame, creating a shield and weapon in the shape of Big Ben with all of his Furyoku. Yoh looks up and asks who he is really fighting. He Oversouls with Amidaryuu Gokoujin and destroys Lyserg’s Oversoul. After the fight, Yoh tells him that in his heart, he was fighting an enemy that wasn’t happened. Lyserg throws a tantrum demanding that they become his friends. Yoh punches him for using his friends for his own selfishness. He then invites Lyserg to join them as they take Ren and Horo Horo to the hospital.

Shaman King Episode 26: Big America

Ren’s plane crash landed in America. Ren thinks one of the other Shamans in the Fight tried to sabotage their plane. Amidamaru scouts the area and learns that there is a town about a day’s walk away. Yoh is ready to start off, while the others reluctantly follow.

Millie and Ellie talk with a couple of other girls about sabotaging Ren’s plane. They decide to ambush them since their surprise attack didn’t on the plane didn’t work.

Yoh and co. head off in the heat to an oasis situated about halfway between their landing and town. While there, Ren, Horo Horo, and Ryu get into it. The girls look on from a cliff above, impressed with their Oversouls. They decide to back down, but one of them, a blonde named Sally, jumps off the cliff ready to face the Shamans. Millie, Ellie, and another girl grab her before she gets to the bottom. Meanwhile, Yoh decides to take a nap while the boys battle it out. When they’ve calmed down, they continue their journey to town. Ryu decides to hitchhike and they meet a driver named Billy who thinks Ryu’s the legendary hitchhiker.

In Tokyo, Manta goes to see if Anna has heard anything about Yoh. She hasn’t and has no intention of getting a phone. Still, she puts Manta to work cleaning the place.

Once the Shamans get to town, they start asking in vain if anyone has heard of Patch Village. Ren gets a lot of attention from the local girls, but that’s about it. Frustrated by their efforts, they ponder what to do next. As they are talking among themselves, the one of the girl’s group, Lilly, following them goes up to them and asks if they want to know more about Patch Village. She knows someone who may be able to help and takes them to a house with an old woman. The woman stalls them until they become suspicious of her. Ren asks who she really is, and Horo Horo opens a nearby closet to reveal the leader, Sharon, as the voice of the old woman. To the surprise of Sharon and Lilly, Yoh asks if the other three outside are in on it. Afterall, they were the ones watching at the Oasis. Ren is impressed & Ryu and Horo Horo are clueless.

Suddenly Sally attacks the house, but Amidamaru and Bason protect everyone from harm. Sharon introduces the group and confesses that she’s trying to destroy her rivals before they get to Patch Village. Silva appears out of nowhere and informs the girls that if they are defeated in a shaman fight when one of the ten priests are around, they will be disqualified from the tournament.

That doesn’t stop the girls from attacking, but their attacks miss and they are captured by the Shamans. They decide it is better to run away. After the fight, Ren declares Yoh the group leader. Horo Horo is upset, but Ryu’s willing to follow Yoh anywhere.

Shaman King Episode 25: Shaman's Journey

Not long after they left China, they received a message from the Oracle Bell that the 2nd preliminary tournament was to start in America.

Manta asks Yoh if something happened between him and Anna. He says not really. Horo Horo and Ryu sit at a diner discussing their trip to America. Yoh is half asleep and Manta is concerned that everyone will be leaving in two days. Everyone promises that they’ll return when the preliminary round is over.

Yoh asks Anna to go for a walk. They are to get to Patch walk in 3 months. Anna tells him that if he loses, she won’t forgive him. He has a duty to her to become the Shaman King.

Horo Horo decides to splurge on a hotel room. Pirika breaks down crying because he’s being so nice to her before he leaves. She gives him Ikupasui, she dug for it herself.

Everyone is preparing in their own way. Yoh and Manta skip cram school to spend time together. Ryu reminisces over a present his gang gave him as a good luck present. He is worried because he isn’t as experienced as master Yoh and the others. Ren and Bason discuss what the tournament will bring. Anna and Tamao wait in vain for Yoh to return with a feast waiting for him. He’s out with Manta. They’re talking about all the people who might be at the tournament including Hao.

At home, Yoh goes to sleep without saying a word to Anna. She looks in on him and tosses the clothes she made him onto him.

Silva talks with Hao, who is particularly cocky. Silva tells him that there won’t be a next existence for him because of Yoh.

The next day, they are off to America by way of one of the Tao family’s 33 airplanes. Hao shows up to taunt them, claiming he can cross the Pacific using only Oversoul. He then brings out his genie, Spirit of Fire. He attacks Ren and then Yoh and then leaves

Shaman King Episode 24: Invulnerable En Tao

Ren commands everyone to stay back as he tries to put an end to his old man. He completely misses. No one can explain how he missed when it looks as if he connected. En Tao catches Ren and throws him up against the wall. He then sets his sights on the others, convinced that Yoh is the source of evil and attacks him. Ren attacks from the back and takes up the fight with his father. Soon, everyone is out cold and En lectures on the uselessness of trust and friendship. They only get in the way of each person’s path. Ren doesn’t buy it and continues his fight. The others stand with him. Ren finally realizes friendship and the emblem on his back disappears.

It seems that the idea of friendship was such an opposite thought that En Tao’s mind became entangled and they finally start wearing away on him. Ren takes his final strike to knock En Tao out of Oversoul. He’s a short and rather normal looking man… especially for maintaining Oversoul form for 10 years.

Not ready to admit defeat, En Tao explains the legacy of the Tao family. They had always worked under the dynasty, but with the advancement of civilization, humans became scared of their shaman abilities and treated them as monsters. They were kicked out of the capital and betrayed by the people who they risked their lives for. His Oversoul, Daidohoh, is the converged souls of his ancestors. He feels he owes it to his ancestors to rebuild the Tao family name. Ren must understand this.

Ren replies that he does, but he is still his own person. His father is unhappy with this and calls all the sould from 2000 years of history to take up all of his Furyoku and does Daichuuka Rasen, a dragon snake appears and attacks. Ren attacks head on, realizing himself, and strikes his father out of Oversoul. He still isn’t ready to give up, but grandfather and mother Tao show up and end the fight.

They then prepare a large feast for everyone to celebrate Ren’s homecoming. That confuses the group and they ask what’s up. Grandfather explains the family history but by finding friends, he and Jun were able to free themselves from the family history to find their own paths.

As Ren rides off, his father comes up behind him and gives him the Tao sacred sword, Houraiken - the sword he received when he became master of the Tao family. It’s now Ren’s turn.

Shaman King Episode 23: Awakened: Nyan Nyan Doushi

Pailong awakens and learns that he was being controlled by her father. She asks that he lend her his strength. He agrees.

Meanwhile, the last of the 5 Deities is kicking Yoh & Ren’s butts with his Doushi Daodankyaku, his Uchuu Honjashi (a series of somersaults which culminate in what looks like an airplane diving beside him), and Honjakyaku (a powerful side kick). Manta can’t understand. The only person who can use Daodandoh is Pailong.

Together, the four shamans attack, but the Kyonshii is able to dodge every attack. Amidamaru thinks this is familiar. Manta recognizes it as Eijuken, where you mimic your opponent’s moves. He is convinced the Kyonshii is Shamon, Pailong’s master. The Kyonshii admits it’s true and attacks, almost applying a finishing blow to Yoh before Pailong steps in. Pailong is pissed that the Kyonshii is imitating his dead master and takes him out in one blow.

En flips out and sends an army of Kyonshii after them. With the five fighters take out a good number but more keep coming. Finally, the Kyonshii leave. They come to a door and Ren again tells them to go home. They of course refuse and decide to follow.

En Tao comes crashing down from the ceiling, still sitting in his chair. The shamans attack, but to no avail…

Shaman King Episode 22: Our Deadly Blows

En Tao’s wife dramatically enters and converses with him about the state of their children. She is curious as to why he’s so mad that they’ve talked back to him. He explains that the Tao family has to be the absolute existence - that of justice. She asks what he’s going to do now. She answers to cut his doubt. Ren is trying to trust others and he needs to break that. She asks if he has doubt in himself. He answers he has no such thing and disappears.

Yoh and Manta lazily relax on a raft floating on a river in China. Horo Horo and Ryu are battling it out on the next raft as Ryu explains the records - he has won all three. Horo Horo has only won two, and Yoh has a win, a loss, and a draw. They have a moment where they discuss Ren and how he is now their friend so they must rescue him.

Ren and Jun are still chained in the basement. He mentions that everything will be ok. He believes that. She laughs because it reminds her of Yoh.

When they reach the Tao estate, the spirits are suspicious that there are no armies to greet them. En Tao sits in his lair applauding Bason’s actions. He had hoped all along that he would bring back the incarnations of evil that gave “doubt” to Ren. He calls for his strongest Kyonshiis which the Tao family has specifically created as bodyguards, the ultimate 5 Deities Army.

Yoh and company enter and are greeted by the 5 Deities army. They take Ryu down pretty easily. Horo Horo begins the fight in Oversoul and freezes one of the deities with Hipopo Punch, ice condensed by Oversoul. Another attacks and hits him from behind but Ryu takes it out with his death blow, Jigokuryuu Benitokage. Horo Horo and Ryu decide to hold them as Yoh and Manta make a run for Ren.

They free Ren and Jun. Ren is still intent on defeating his father, but Jun has vowed to never fight again. She doesn’t want to hurt anyone anymore.

En Tao calls forth Pailong. Meanwhile, Horo Horo and Ryu are making short work of the 5 Deities army. Yoh and Manta follow Ren, questioning his motives. Yoh doesn’t understand how Ren can hate his father this much. Ren explains that he came to destroy the hatred within him. His father placed an emblem on his back to fill him with hatred. He must overcome his father before he overcomes himself. He tells Yoh to go home. Yoh, however, has other intentions, puts his arm around Ren, and tells him that they’ll do it together.

Suddenly, there is a loud crash and Pailong breaks through the wall. Yoh tries to greet him as a friend, but Ren and Jun are quick to warn him that their father is once again controlling him. Pailong transforms into a dragon. Manta asks what’s going on, but then realizes that they won’t use Oversoul because Jun still cares about Pailong. Jun decides to step in and throws her seal to try to break her fathers. Ren cuts it before it hits Pailong. He thinks there must be a secret to this because there doesn’t appear to be a seal. Ren Oversouls and commands Yoh to do the same, explaining that En is controlling Pailong from far away with Furyoku. That’s why he’s in this state. Together, Ren and Yoh destroy Pailong’s Oversoul.

They then make their way back to Ryu and Horo Horo, who aren’t fairing too well against the last of the 5 Deities. He performs Ochankyaku…

Shaman King Episode 21: Believe

En Tao is not happy that both Ren and Jun have decided to revolt against him. He decides to reinforce the one truth in the world - that the one who wins is just and the one who loses is evil. Ren agrees to the terms and performs Super Golden Chuuka-zanmai. Furyoku no Kisen! His attacks do nothing to his father, who strikes at him. Pailong starts attacking Ren under his father’s will. He has run out of Furyoku and can’t Oversoul, so he commands Bason to leave. He doesn’t want his father to control him as he is controlling Pailong.

After Bason explains the situation to Yoh, they all look to Anna who gives them today’s training session. She explains that the Tao family is dangerous - an assassin group started over 3000 years ago. Whenever there’s a bloody incident, the Tao family was always involved in the assassination. She asks Bason why they should be involved in a father/son fight. He admits that he isn’t totally clear, but that Ren had mentioned that he wanted to break the rope of hatred. Anna is not impressed and asks that he doesn’t bring Yoh into this for that petty reason. Yoh only has one month until his first battle. He needs to train.

Yoh’s father has been training Ryu. He now feels that he can meet master Yoh face to face.

Yoh, Horo Horo, and Manta leave in the middle of the night. Anna wonders what’s up. She thinks to herself that Yoh only has one month of living normal with the people of this town and yet he would rather go after Ren.

On their way, they meet Zen Hijiri and Ryo Kamishiro, two very weird people that have declared it their mission to clear away the spirits and evil of the world. Together, they are called Zenryo. Tamao shows up with Ponchi and Konchi and start laughing at the performance Zenryo just gave. They don’t take kindly to that and start playing their electric guitars, which oddly enough is like chanting a prayer to the Buddha. Ponchi and Konchi ascend to the heavens and Amidamaru and Bason are on their way. Their wish is to punish all evil spirits, thus destroying all competition before the Shaman Fight. With the sound of their guitars, they command evil spirits (Chimimouryo) to attack Yoh. Horo Horo is ready to fight with Kororo, but they capture her before he can Oversoul.

Yoh is pissed and repels the Chimimouryo by giving them his Furyoku, ready to fight for Amidamaru. Suddenly, Ryu shows up and destroys the Chimimouryo. He then breaks their guitars and frees Kororo in the process. Yoh and Manta are really surprised when they see Tokageroh. Ryu also has an Oracle Bell which means he’s in the Shaman Fight too.

They are pondering how to get Amidamaru and Bason back when Anna and Pirika walk up. Anna came to give Yoh what he forgot, his Chinese for Beginners book, which he was contemplating going back for earlier. All the spirits return and Yoh and company set out on their way.

Ren and Jun have been chained up in the basement for several days. Ren vows to defeat his father so he can overcome his own hatred.

Shaman King Episode 20: Soul Mata Cemetary

Ren’s blow sends Yoh flying and his Oversoul breaks for the sixth time. Ren is growing tired as well. In terms of Furyoku, the two are equal because Yoh has been using far less in his Oversoul than Ren. Ren calls Hakuoh and his horse rides up to him. He has trained Hakuoh as a Shaman Horse and puts Bason’s horse spirit, Kokutoh, into him.

Ren’s father asks Jun how in the world Ren could possibly lose the match. He has far more Furyoku. Jun explains that it was the same with her. Yoh has a kind of warm power that Ren, who knows only how to destroy, doesn’t have. Yoh was able to pull out the feelings of sadness from her spirit, and he will defeat Ren with this ability. This is a battle of total opposites, like light and dark. That is why Ren holds such a grudge against him. Her father’s spirits attack her.

Ren threatens with his ultra super special attack. Yoh calmly tells him that he probably won’t be able to dodge it, so he’ll receive it at full force. Ren laughs and tells him that he’s crazy. Yoh reflects back to Yomi’s hole and the importance of being himself at all times. The reason he lost to Faust is because he tried things he wasn’t capable of. Yoh adds the rest of his Furyoku to his Oversoul and the two prepare to learn who will win.

Ren attacks with Perfect Chuuka-zanmai and Amidamaru strikes down. Both Oversouls fade and Ren’s disappeared completely. Ren realizes that he can only destroy things with force, but Yoh is wind. He admits defeat. Yoh confronts him and confesses that his Oversoul ran out as well, so they don’t know who the winner is. They start bickering and Yoh decides he’s going to drag Ren along back to Anna to be punished with him. Ren doesn’t take this lightly. Silva calmly walks over and informs them that they both ran out of Oversoul at the exact moment, so they have both passed the preliminary. Yoh is ready to eat and invites Ren back for a meal.

During the party, Ren starts picking a fight with Horo Horo and Yoh. Bason almost cries he can’t believe master Ren is this happy. Amidamaru looks at him like he’s nuts until Bason explains how Ren has always been alone and now he made a friend in Yoh. After dinner, Yoh, Horo Horo, and Manta strip and get ready to enter the hot springs (Onsen). Ren thinks it’s ridiculous and asks why he needs to go in with them. Horo Horo asks if he’s embarrassed and then throws him in the bath with them.

Ren decides to leave in the middle of the night. Yoh tells him that he could stay longer if he’d like. He tells him that he has something to do and that one day he will beat him. Yoh laughs. As Ren journeys by train, he reveals to Bason that he wanted to become Shaman King because he hated all humans. But after meeting Yoh, he realized that not everyone is bad. He has had a cold heart and he would only create hatred. He must kill his father En Tao to erase the hatred. After they destroy En’s army, he is greeted by his father…

As everyone eats dinner, they suddenly get a bad feeling. Yoh recognizes that something has happened to Ren. Bason crawls to their house begging them to help master Ren.

Shaman King Episode 19: Big Souls of the Two

Silva and Karimu dine on “Mezashi” (Sardine), traditional Japanese food. They marvel at the tiny portion and then discuss how they could go for a Matsutake (type of mushroom that’s up to $100) each. So, tomorrow’s the big match between Yoh and Ren. Karimu of course looks at Ren’s numbers and believes he has the upper hand, but Silva isn’t so sure. Suddenly, their boss, the old lady, Goldva-sama appears on the tv eating steak. She warns that he’s been taking an interest in Yoh and that he should take care to judge the match fairly.

Anna walks in to find Yoh listening to music. She tells him to get up and go get groceries. Meanwhile, Ren’s spirit, Bason, tells him to go easy on training the day before the big match. The Tao family is counting on him. Ren gets pissed and informs his spirit that he will win because he is the best person for it, not because his family wants him to.

The next day, Yoh sets out for the biggest graveyard in western Tokyo, Matareien. Anna and Tamao stay home. Tamao is worried sick, but Anna believes in Yoh.

Ren arrives and the match begins. Ren taunts that this will be Yoh’s death and calls Bason. Yoh calls Amidamaru and the two begin. Ren immediately performs his Golden Oversoul, Chuuka-zanmai! His spear glows yellow and he strikes Yoh, who blocks pretty easily with his new Oversoul. Ren laughs and attacks again, vowing to take Yoh out with his next blow. As Yoh struggles to get up, Ren attacks from behind, but Amidamaru is quick to block. Ren is finding the Yoh/Amidamaru combo quite powerful, especially when Yoh attacks with Shinkuu Buttagiri to send Ren flying backwards.

Silva looks on and observes that Ren still has the advantage. He still hasn’t used 10% of his Furyoku. Ren gets up angrily and powers up. He performs Golden Punch, which sends Yoh crashing to the ground. His Oversoul starts to break up. Yoh gets back up, but whenever Oversoul is used up, the Furyoku put into it previously is lost, and Yoh starts to feel the effects. Ren started the battle with more Furyoku and now has increased the strength gap between them. He’s now ready to finish it with Golden Double Sledgehammer but Yoh counters the attack and destroys Ren’s Golden. He attacks again, but Yoh continues to dodge under Amidamaru’s guidance. Silva speculates that because Amidamaru fought many opponents bigger than he, he now knows how to fight those bigger than him.

Ren is getting more and more pissed and finally performs Super Golden Chuuka-zanmai Multiple attack which sends several explosions Yoh’s way. Unfortunately for Ren, Yoh is one step ahead of him and attacks from behind with Amidaryuu Gokoujin, which sends Ren flying. Ren cannot believe that his Oversoul was broken twice. Yoh smiles and tells him that he’s already broken his Oversoul five times. Silva explains that because Ren is so angry, he didn’t notice that he was working away on Yoh’s Oversoul because Yoh stayed so calm the entire way through. An Oversoul is linked with the shaman’s emotions and as Ren’s confidence broke down, so did his Oversoul.

Ren has a flashback to himself as a kid. Everyone around him is dead and an army looks on. His hatred begins to grow. In the present, Ren’s sister asks the head of the family to free Ren. He has seen too many people die and is now filled with anger. She believes that if Ren is not set free, he will lose.

Shaman King Episode 18: Yoh

From the east, someone who will bring misfortune to Yoh will arrive. It is Tamao’s job to defeat them. The spirits ask what she will do.

Horo Horo beat his last opponent to win his way to the tournament. Pirika is happy, but forces him to start training. She also gives Kororo a custom made steel lotus leaf.

Ryu and Manta enter the nearest temple they come to in Izumo and are greeted by Ponchi, the raccoon spirit, and Konchi, the fox spirit, and the voice of Tamao commanding them to leave. They are all talk and Ryu smacks them down. Tamao runs to their aid, and Ryu falls madly in love with her and asks her out. He tries to kiss her, but the Ponchi and Konchi step in. Tamao apparently has a crush on Yoh and is prepared to defeat Ryu and Manta for Yoh. She’s a trainee of the Asakura family, Tamamura Tamao, and can perform an OverSoul. Manta refuses to leave, and Tamao prepares to defeat them. Suddenly Anna steps in and asks what her fortune telling has predicted.

Anna questions the raccoon and the fox, slowly stepping on them until they confess that a tall one and a short one will cause trouble. Anna is quick to get Manta and Ryu off the hook - everyone apparently does whatever she says. Anna asks why Manta came. He replies that he didn’t want to lose a friend. Anna warns him that by staying with Yoh, he will be in greater and greater danger.

Tamao takes Manta on a tour of the Asakura estate. At one time, there were 191 students living there. She then takes Manta to Yoh’s grandpa, who informs him that Yoh died. If he doesn’t return in the next few days, that’s how it will be. Grandpa takes Manta to the cave where Yoh is. Mikihisa also takes Ryu to the cave, but as soon as Ryu enters, he starts questioning his own existence and runs out.

Tamao can’t sleep. She and Manta stare out at the stars. She explains that Yoh needs Anna. Yohmei doen’t want to end the Asakura family, and an able Shaman woman is needed to become his wife. Anna is probably also the most worried about Yoh.

Tamao does a fortune telling to learn that Yoh will come out of the cave today. The tall one and the short one, aka Ellie and Millie, also arrive. They’ve decided that they must kill Yoh by closing the hole so Yoh can’t come out. Just then, Yoh exits the cave. Amidamaru and Yoh converse and demonstrate that Yoh’s OverSoul has undergone a transformation, Amidaryu Gokoujin! Amidamaru takes the form of a sword now. The two are no match for Yoh.

Manta greets Yoh as well and the two make up. Yoh asks Tamao to cook him a meal as Anna demonstrates her violent, jealous side.
