So at this point it powers up, but with no audio/visual? Is the a/v cable in place? I know it seems silly, but I recall having a lose a/v cable and the power light would blink. Best bet is to check out one of the xbox mod forums. I say this not encouraging you to mod the console, but because those people are familiar with the guts in the box, and probably aware of faulty hardware problems.

Unfortunately my cables are fine. When it was working the power light would come on immediately while flashing. But now it just comes on suddenly after a few seconds and goes off on its own again.
Might be the PSU. Did you buy it used?Xeros606
No it wasnt used. When i purchased it in 2006 it was packed version that had the soccer worldcup logo on the box. I just wish there was somthing i could try before i got it repaired.

My excellent 17' crt monitor recently died after 5 years which I suppose is a decent run.

Anyway, I was looking for a new good monitor to buy.Nothing too fancy. My pc is is an old 2004 branded compaq machine. (I know, not the best decision.)

I was thinking about getting a new 17'- 21' inch monitor, but it all depends on the price. I really dont know which particular model to purchase.

My budget is about 100-160$ tops. My pc is mainly for surfing, watching the odd movie, and playing games from 2003 and before.( The specs aren't great)

I also wanted to know if there are compatibility problems that i may face. Would there be some issues connecting the new monitor to my pc, etc etc.

My specs are amd 2400+ ,512 mb transcend ram(the older kind) and a via-based motherboard.

I really dont want to go into a shop and blindly purchase anything with the advice of a salesperson.

So any particular advice ,suggestions and links would be highly appreciated.

Also,

- I dont live in the States so i wont be able to buy from newegg.

Hi,

I've been having some problems with my original xbox of late, and wanted some help or advice on the matter.

My xbox is relatively new, as it was purchased in September of 2006. (Yes, I purchased one REALLY late.) It has served me well the past 3 years with no disc reading problems or crashes. Only on 1 or 2 rare occasions in this period, it froze while playing San Andreas. The dvd tray would also occasionally get stuck, usually when the tray was empty. But this was hardly a problem, as a simple tap on the lower left corner would 'unlock' it. So, apart from these minor quibbles the xbox worked perfectly and played great.

In March and April of this year I hadn't touched the xbox (or other gaming devices for that matter) as I was preparing for my finals. But as soon as they were over ,I started my xbox and it had no problems whatsoever. I was worried that being unused for that long would probably cause some problems or whatnot. But it worked fine.

But in October this year when I went to turn it on, I noticed that my xbox simply refused to boot up/turn on. Neither did the usual green xbox logo appear on my tv ,nor was my xbox power light blinking to indicate the console had been powered up.

Even a harder push of the power or disc button does nothing. So I tried again today but in vain.

When I push the power button nothing happens, but if leave it on for a few seconds, the green power light appears. However it doesn't blink and nothing appears on the screen. Also, no audible sound can be heard from the xbox or screen when this happens. After a few seconds the power light will go away.

Is this a problem anyone has had with their xbox? Is it some simple problem I can fix on my own?….. like a loose wire inside the case?

I asked a couple a local shops if they would repair it. However, they say that I need to bring it in and then their repair guy will look at it and give me an approximate/estimate. Then it would be up to me to have them repair it at that price or not. One of the shops advised me not to bother repairing it, as most of these repair or service guys the shops send it to, usually exaggerate the problem even if it's minor and basically rip you off. He said i'd be charged 40$ atleast, maybe even 80$ in some cases. And I'll have no way of bargaining or even know if the guy'll ruin it more.

So I wanted to know if there is something I could try to do to fix it myself, before I resort sending it to one of these guys to have a look at it. Any links to a similar xbox query being solved would also be great.

Any help would be appreciated.

Also,

-I dont live in the states.

-I know I can get a 360, but I really dont want to get rid of my xbox and would prefer if I could just fix it. I still have plenty of games i still need to play on it,many of which are not backward compatible on the 360.

I never played The first 2 monkey island games either. This news is excellent. I did play Curse and Escape and loved both ( yes, monkey kombat was not that bad. ). Both experiences were great. The only reason i coudnt get around to playing Mi1 and 2 is mainly because i find it very difficult to play the games. No voice acting , bad inventory system. The oldest Lucas arts game ive played would be Sam and MAx: Hit the Road and its mainly because its the first lucas game to use the mouse based interface which was perfected in Full throttle and Curse. This news is great for me. I wil finally get around to playing these master pieces. And those who want to engage their nostalgia will be glad to know that you can flip between the new and orginal graphics on the fly. This is the best news in ages. I also woudnt mind if the re-released Curse of monkey island with one change. Apparently the whole ending carnival area was completely cut short. They should add the parts they never had time to complete. The ending of that game was way too short and felt incomplete.

Really? I guess this is the year that Federer could win it with Nadal and Djokivic out

Colin1192
I hope so. Last year was so depressing being a Roger fan. This will be his best shot at getting the french. I coudnt believe nadal lost. I would have posted a link but i dont think any one wrote an article within seconds of the match ending . I was watching it live .
