big_haircut82 Blog

It smells like updog in here...

(That was for my fellow Office fans)

I felt like getting a new blog up here since the old one is kind of outdated now but just haven't been feeling that bloggeriffic lately. We've been getting hit with crazy thunderstorms lately and the weather is really starting to get to me. In the last 3 weeks I think we only had one day that didn't have torrential rain, thunder and lightning. The worst part is - I never got to go to Six Flags! With all this rain I haven't had one dry day that me and Dana could both get off from work.

Seeing as I've been trapped inside a lot lately, I've been doing plenty of tv and internet-related things. Firstly, my fantasy baseball league just finished up the regular season yesterday and guess how I did?

The correct answer is: Awesome!

Out of 16 teams, I was the only female competing and I ended up winning my division, having the second best record in the whole league, and earning myself a first round bye in the playoffs! So this week I don't have to do anything and the worst case scenario is I lose my playoff game this week and come in 4th overall out of all 16 teams...so not too shabby. I'm totally in this to win though - there is cash at stake! It was a $30 buy-in and I'm not sure exactly what the prize structure is but I'm definitely in the running to win some money. :D

I've also been getting involved in the game threads here at TV.com these last couple weeks. I think Joey's movie trivia has really brought my competitive side out. So now I'm involved in that, The Mole ORG, and Big Brother 1 - The Game! It's been a lot of fun and I've gotten to know a few more people on here and have made some more new friends which is always nice. :)

I think my NetFlix queue got messed up today (although I'm sure it was probably something I did by accident) because I was supposed to have Mad Men season 1 shipping today but for some reason it sent Weeds season 1 instead which I thought was much further down in my queue. I've been recording season 2 of Mad Men but need to obviously watch Season 1 first to catch up so it stinks that I have to wait a few more days now because they've already sent the wrong DVD out today.

I'm almost completely done with Season 1 of Bones - it's such a great show. We've been watching at least one episode every night! My brother already bought seasons 1 and 2 so he's going to let me borrow season 2 when he is done. :)

Dexter - Season 2 comes out a week from tomorrow - I can't wait for that either. It's rough when all your favorite shows are on pay channels and you can't just watch them until the dvd comes out. :(

My dvr is going to explode once the fall shows come back. I already watch a ton of stuff and now I picked up all these new shows over the summer. I wish you could add memory to your DVR like you can to your computer.

I could write about more stuff but I might as well save it so I have some material for another blog later this week. I'm not that good at coming up with things to write about lately. I hope everyone is having a great week!

Without Further Adieu...

Ok here's the scoop:

After the second night of messages I had posted my blog inquiring to the identity of WellWhatWho (see here)

and after that I never heard from him/her again...until TODAY!

I have AIM up at my work computer because my company uses instant messaging to communicate quick little questions/comments in the office. Around quarter of 5pm today, I get a message from WellWhatWho asking "Melvin?"

I respond "this is Jeannine, who is this?" You know I never did get an answer to that question. He (it did turn out to be a guy - no idea how old) starts firing off questions about whether or not I own this acct (my sn) and why I'm not "a dude" as he had assumed. :we all know what happens when you assume:

For a moment he seemed somewhat normal, offered to explain himself. It turns out he had found my blog on TV.com and he couldn't remember what he had read but found something interesting he remembered and wanted to talk about TV. I tried to find out who he was on this site but he said he was a lurker, no acct. Seemed harmless enough, so I asked what shows he watched. This is when it started getting a little strange - after telling me he wants to talk about TV, he informs me that "due to shows not meeting his standards (paraphrasing here - but close enough)" he doesn't watch much these days. I offer a few shows that I like due to good writing - since he seemed to be picky. This is where I shouldn't have assumed - he wasn't picky about the writing, the acting, nothing like that, it was the actresses.

WellWhatWho (let's just call him WWW) talked about the lack of a strong female lead on TV, even mentioned Buffy - I think that's cool, that was a good show and she was a strong female lead character. I start to talk about this when he interrupts that he doesn't think I get his point. (A little condescending about it too) He was referring to Charisma Carpenter, the Cordelia character, so I start to think about that and he interrupts again - "let me try to explain." At this point he sends me a link to a picture of her, I tell him I'm already familiar with the actress. Then he finally explains - "look at her, great long hair" and the picture of her is in a very low cut blouse.

There's your big mistake WWW!

He quickly tries to recover saying he shouldn't be talking to a girl about this, didn't think of how offensive it was. I said he was more confusing than offensive but I am not the person to be having this conversation with - and quickly got the heck out of dodge.

Whew! I've been on this site for over a year now and that is the first encounter I had with someone strange like that - so now the blog is friends only. I don't need any extra crazies running around reading my thoughts - my regular friends are enough. :P

Still alive

I keep starting blog entries and then get interrupted and can't finish them so here goes nothing:

My vacation ended and I started back to work yesterday. I did officially get the project manager job - and a nice raise to go with it. :) The only stipulation is that I can't transition out of my sales/admin role until we hire and train a replacement...so for now I wait. No big deal though.

My vacation was pretty crazy despite the fact we didn't go anywhere. The weather was awful, nothing but torrential rain and lightning for all but 2 days. Fortunately though the 2 days that were nice were the day of my company party and the day of our bbq. I spent all the other days cooking and cleaning to prepare for our huge bbq. We always make too much food - but at least no one leaves hungry. :)

My company party was so much fun. We had a fake olympics and I got the bronze medal. We played pool, badmitton, washoos (like ring toss/horseshoes), hula hoop, and guitar hero. Some of my co-workers came to our bbq as well which was pretty fun. The only bad thing about our bbq is at the end of the night, our landlord's daughter (who lives next door) brought all these weirdos over to our house even though our bbq started at 3:30 and it was now 10:30 and we were ready to clean up. Dana made them some kebobs on the grill to be nice. I went inside because there were too many mosquitos and figured he wouldn't be far behind me. These weird people stayed out all night (Dana gave up and came in exhausted at 2:30am. He had to pull in our food and beer that was left because they were just uninvited mooches that were sucking down everything. They were so inconsiderate. We were stuck though because technically we live on her family's property so we couldn't kick her out. I felt bad for Dana. He was so tired he couldn't go with me to my parent's house Sunday for my brother's brithday party. Today is his actual birthday - my brother is 21! That makes me feel old. :P

I've been watching a bit of tv lately too. I'm quickly getting hooked on Bones - I'm about halfway through the first season. It's really starting to grow on me. The dymanic between Bones and Booth really reminds me of Mulder and Scully. I also watched the finale of The Next Food Network Star. I was very disappointed that Lisa didn't win. Mad Men Season 2 just started so I fired up my dvr. I haven't seen season 1 yet but I'm planning to watch it all in August so I can catch up soon. By then my fall shows will be returning too - woo hoo!

Everyone seemed to take vacation at my work this week so things are a bit crazy but I'm slowly trying to catch up on everyone's blogs. Sorry if I miss some of them - I swear I'm trying! Gotta do Movie Meltdown Trivia today too - I'm still in the running. :)

Enjoy the rest of your week everyone!

Pooped

Sorry in advance for such a lame blog but I'm too tired for much else right now. I got up at 7:30, answered my movie meltdown questions and then Dana and I got on the motorcycle and rode all day. I got home and 5 and we quickly changed and headed out to play softball. Did that for another almost 3 hours and now I'm finally home. Mind you all I've eaten all day is breakfast, so I am completely and totally pooped!

Trying to solve a mystery...

For the last 2 days I have woken up to a series of missed instant messages on AIM from someone with the sn WellWhatWho. I'd love to respond but all the messages are left between 1 and 3am and I am sleeping. I know that this person is from tv.com because they say that is where they got my screenname from but don't say who they are. Then they just leave impatient messages all night while I sleep saying: "are you there? are you there? are you there? ?????????????????"

No I'm not there because it's 3am and I'm sleeping. Thats why my away message is up. When I wake up in the morning I have checked to see if they are online so I can respond but they never are. I'm not blowing anyone off - just leave a comment on one of my blogs or send me a PM so I know who to respond to.

Hoping someone can help me solve this mystery!

Happy Friday!

Happy Friday everyone! I can't wait for the weekend to begin...just another hour and a half of work for me. I have to work on Monday but after that I'm taking the rest of the week off for vacation. We're not going away or anything but since Dana and I haven't spent much time together this summer we are going to try to do a lot of day trips. We definitely are going to go to Six Flags. The Superman rollercoaster is my favorite.

I'm such a kid when it comes to amusement parks...I hope Dana can keep up!

Promotion!

This is just a quick blog to say that, much like The Jeffersons, I am moving on up! :D

One of our project managers just gave her notice and as of right now it's not official but they told me its pretty much a done deal. I'm excited because I'll finally be able to transition out of sales which is what I've been wanting to do for a while but at the time it was the only way to get my foot in the door. The job I have currently was really entry-level sales prospecting but I've taken on so much more since I started and learned a lot so they are excited for me to make the move to project management. It's actually the job I originally interviewed for but at the time I didn't feel ready.

The title pretty much sums up my trip to the cape. I left work at noon on Friday to give myself plenty of time to pack and drive to Cotuit. I wasn't sure how long the drive would be since I had never driven there before but apparently I overestimated because I got there about a half hour quicker than I thought I would. I went to my best friend Nikki's house to spend the weekend with her and her family as well as her fiance Kevin who is my other best friend - they are the best so I'm very excited that they are getting married. If they ever had broken up I couldn't have chosen sides. We went out for Mexican food which is always delicious in my opinion. :) I had a chimichanga which is a very fun word to say...and washed it down with a couple of these

After dinner we dropped off Kevin and Nikki and I went to the Moe concert. Her dad laughed at us for being so overdressed since the show is so full of hippies and we just looked pretty regular but we weren't going to put on a hippie costume to fit in - even though her dad was happy to offer some of his finer grateful dead gear. :P I have seen Moe before and there is usually a lot of people smoking pot and stuff, which I expected since they're a jam band, but this crowd was kind of scary. There were a lot of people there that must have done some crazy drugs. About halfway through the show the ushers came by and kicked the kids who were sitting next to us out of our section - it turned out they weren't in the right seats. (We had really good seats in the 5th row) I had wished they just let them stay though because the people who really had the tickets next to us were really sketchy looking. There were 3 of them despite there only being 2 seats. 2 guys and a girl. The girl looked like she was drugged out of her mind. One of the guys was holding her up because she couldn't stand, her neck was tilted all the way back because she couldn't support her own head and she had a permanent grin/glazed over look. I'm not sure if she had been slipped something or if she was on heroine (she looked skinny like a crack whore or something) but she was completely incapacitated. The guy holding her up looked like he belonged on Cops and the other guy with them was just gigantic. I turned to Nikki and said it was a good time to go check out the band t-shirts. We never went back to our seats and it was a good decision I think. The weather was great so we just stood at the opening to the melody tent and watched from there. We stayed for the whole show except the encore because we wanted to get a jump on the traffic since everyone but us seemed to be drunk...like way too drunk to drive but they were going to anyway. As we were leaving there was this guy in front of us just stumbling drunkenly towards the parking lot. A cop came walking next to us and looked at the guy, then looked at me and my friend and said "think he's gonna make it?" We just laughed and said "nope, you're gonna get there first." The drunk guy kind of fell into a tree and started like he was just going to stand there and relieve himself when the cop grabbed him and asked him what he was doing. Like an idiot he said something about going home, as if he was about to go drive. The cop cuffed him and arrested him right there!

Saturday was just a day to relax. We went into Hyannis and checked out this cool record store. I have a tough time finding good vinyl so I was stoked to find this store. I picked up 6 records, 5 used cl@ssic rock and 1 new punk album. They had a great selection so I was able to get Cream, Boston, Bob Seger, Bad Company, Dave Mason and The Descendents all for 40 bucks. We had lunch outdoors at one of the little restaurants on Main street then headed back to the house to go swimming. We didn't really feel like going out and spending a bunch of money at night so we just rented a movie. We saw "Michael Clayton" with George Clooney. It was pretty good but confusing at first, for a while I didn't understand what was going on because there were so many disjointed plot points and evrything seemed to be out of order. Once it finally came together I liked it but I would probably need to watch it again to catch stuff I missed the first time.

On the TV front:

I started watching Season 1 of Bones - I had always wanted to see that show. I love David Boreanaz. I really like it so far, I have a lot of catching up to do. I'm also watching Last Comic Standing and The Next Food Network Star, although I DVRed that so I have to catch up tonight. Mad Men just came out on DVD so I think I'm going to watch that soon too so I can catch up before the next season. Big Brother 10 premiered last night so I'm watching that now too. (Please don't throw garbage at me) I always watch bad tv in the summer it seems. I already can't stand a couple of the people after just one episode - Renny and Jessie are very annoying.

Books:

I'm still finishing up Richard Matheson's "I am Legend" collection. I just have 2 short stories left so I'll finish up tonight most likely. My new book from amazon just came so I'm excited to start reading it. Upon Tom's (Count Chocula) advice, I purchased Bill Bryson's "A Walk in the Woods."

My fantasy baseball team picked up another 2 wins so I improved to 18-12, just 1 game out of first place. Woo hoo! The All-Star game is tomorrow and the home run derby is tomorrow. I hope everyone had a nice weekend! Hopefully the week will go by fast. :)
