Why I hate the film: Avatar

So if your a film buff and you have not heard of the film Avatar, well youve been living under a rock for the past year! Avatar is the latest epic from director James Cameron, who also directed Aliens, the first two Terminator films, and Titanic, and has become the highest grossing film of all time reaching a whopping 2.7 BILLION dollars at the box office, I was one of the first to see it, I saw it the second day it came out, and I was pumped up. It looked friggin fantastic, now, what was my initial response? I thought it was okay. The story I thought was just absolute garbage, it seemed to me that they had just paraphrased Pocahontas' story line and added in some weird aliens and cool effects. Now the effects, were absolutely astonishing! I mean it looked terrific, and in Imax and 3-D i had an excellent time at the theater. And it seemed that everyone loved that movie......which is one of the reasons I grew to hate it

Now I know what some of you may be thinking "Well the movie had awesome effects and although a kinda crappy storyline, it was still a good movie right?" Well, at first I would have agreed with you, now im not gonna try and take away the fact that the film had pretty amazing visuals, cause like I said I was blown away! But my reason for disliking the film was the fact that everyone started to overrate the film incredibly, I mean there were people claiming it was one of the best movies ever made! I mean, WTF? I mean if you were judging a film by its effects then yeah I could kinda understand, but the plot to me was just complete bull, and if a movie doesnt have a good story then, like in video games, I find it less enjoyable, but unlike a video game I dont control what the characters do etc etc. so when a movie doesnt have a good story, I just find it a major, MAJOR downgrade, my initial rating for Avatar was a 6 because of its story, now if it had a really good and original one, it probably would have gotten something like a 9 or maybe even a 10

So story aside, what was it that started to make me hate the film so much? Well, it was both the extreme fanboys and the media. The media treated Avatar like it was the best film since Citizen Kane, and the fans oh god dont even get me started! And Im not talking about or meaning to insult those who enjoyed or liked the movie, Im just talking about the people who constantly went on about how ball crushingly epic and amazing it was! It was those people who went on and on and ON about the visual effects but did nothing to defend it in terms of good storytelling, thats my major pet peeve about the movie. Well remember people, this is all MY opinion, if you dont agree with me, then tell me why or explain your opinion to me in a respectful manner, if your gonna comment on this just to say "Oh my god you f**** moron!" etc etc dont even bothering commenting. Now, dont get me wrong, there were some good things about this film, like I said over and over the effects were fantastic and the way they presented the story was pretty cool, but constant undeserved praise of the film is what made me dislike it even more, I guess "Hate" Isnt the right word to describe how I feel about this film. Well thats the end of this blog, Watch out for my Gears of War, Half Life 2, and God of War III reviews that should be coming shortly, see all of you on the forums!!! :D

Im Back!!

Well im back from my 4 day rafting trip in The Green River in Utah! :D I had a great time, stayed on the river for 4 days and 3 nights, I got to meet alot of new people, all of them were awesome! And best of all, I got to experience the awesome scenery that Utah has to offer. I go on trips like these alot, ive gone hiking in Hanging Canyon in Wyoming, Yellowstone National Park, Grand Tetons and Glacier National Park in Montana, Zyon National Park where we did a 15 mile hike (Which was named the greatest Hike in the world by the Travel Channel) and Bryce Canyon, Ive also been rafting on the Salmon River in Idaho. All of these trips are really special and very beautiful. The only downside is that I missed some of the World Cup and all of E3, so no I have not seen anything at E3 yet, but I will later tonight when I get on Gamespot later. Well im gonna wrap up this blog, and Im gonna watch Brazil vs Ivory Coast, should be a great game, plus I need cheering up when Italy tied New Zealand, as an Italian I was not happy about that! :P Oh and If you havent noticed I got a new avatar, and Im level 20...YAY! :D

My Top 10 Favorite FPS Games

You all probably know, Im a huge FPS fan, ive played alot, here are the 10 FPS games that I feel are the greatest.

10. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

This game is the game that really got me hooked on online multiplayer games. I remember beating the campaign several times, and although short, it was action packed and extremely cinematic, I was close to selling it because I didnt really think that I would play it, then I realized that I had never even touched the online mode, I tried it, and stayed up till 4 AM playing. I have so many nostalgic memories playing this game with friends, meeting new people, and several "Awww Snap" moments. As for Modern Warfare 2, well, not so much.

9. Halo 3

The Halo series has always been one of my favorites, it has action and an awesome action hero that I unfortunetly forgot to mention in my "Top 10 Best Gaming Heroes" List, but oh well. Halo 3 had a great campaign that continued the epic story of Master Chief, Cortana, Chief Johnson and several others. While it may not be the most genius or most brilliant story ive ever seen, it definitely did present it excellently. Halo 3's brilliance didnt end in the campaign, like COD4 it brought multiplayer that made the game worth keeping. Ive had so many awesome memories of this games online, I know I will end up repeating what I said about COD4, so I wont bother repeating myself.

8. Counterstrike

5 years and I still havent gotten tired of this game! I started playing CS when I was 10 years old, it was my very first online shooter and 5 years later, well, I still love this game to death! If I ever make a list of 10 most nostalgic games for me, this would definitely be in the top 3. Oh the countless late Saturday nights I stayed up with this game and a 6 pack of Red Bull!

7. Portal

Im not all that sure if this counts since its technically a puzzle game, but then again, it takes place in the First Person view and you do shoot! :P Anyways, Portal is one of the most genre and mind bending games Ive ever played. I must have beaten this game about 10 times, and I still get stumped on a couple test chambers every now and then. Portal also features some of the wittiest and comedic dialog ive ever heard in a game, which to me is a huge bonus, its a dark, disturbing, and confusing as hell game, and if you have not played it, well then.....WHAT THE HELL!!!

6. Deus EX

I do not have much to say about the game itself that has not been said in previous reviews, except, if you have not played this game and like FPS or RPG games at all - Stop what you are doing and obtain it somehow. This is truly a masterpiece in the realm of video games and anyone should have the privilege of enjoying this ****c.

5. System Shock 2

System Shock 2 has undoubtedly one of the greatest blends of RPG, FPS, Action Adventure, and Survival Horror, in fact its the only game I know of to combine all those :P Its creepy atmosphere, near perfect controls, and a creepy and intimidating villain that is Shodan, System Shock 2 is a must have for all those who appreciate something new.

4. Halo: Combat Evolved

Halo Combat Evolved is one of those games that will always be remembered as a major cultural phenomenon. Its this generations Star Wars. It will be one of those games that you can play 50 times and still notice something new, something you have never seen before, its innovative use of the Armour Shield, which not only reduced player frustration, but is commonly used in many modern FPS games, It single handedly made the Xbox worth having, and if one game can have so much of an impact on one console, then you know its good.

TOP 3 WOOOOOOOOOOO!!

3. DOOM

The game that single handedly popularized the FPS genre. Without Doom, nearly all of the games on this list would not be here. Its almost 20 years old and it still stuns me on how amazing it was, and this was 1993. I often ponder on what it was like to be a gamer from the early 90s who was so used to beat em ups and platformers to experience a game like Doom, their heads must have exploded :|.......okay maybe not that extreme but you can kinda see where Im getting at. I first played Doom at the age of 5 on the SNES, back then it was the only gaming system I had, and out of the 5 games we had for it, Doom was the one that I was constantly playing.

2. Half Life 2 (Along with Ep. One and Two)

I remember playing Half Life 2 and being amazed at how much diversity in the environments there was. It was very apparent that Valve put alot of effort and love into this game, this is a game that also blends brilliant but simple puzzles into fast paced and engaging combat, Half Life 2 is and forever will be one of my favorite games of all time

1. Half Life

Oh what, you really didnt see that coming? Half Life is just plain amazing!!! You are in the shoes of Gordon Freeman, and you are definitely the right man in the wrong place at the wrong time. When an experiment goes tragically wrong, hordes of aliens from another Dimension come in and start killing everyone in sight, and not only does Gordon have aliens trying to kill him, but he has the US Military hunting him down to silence him (As if he wasnt silent already) When I first played Half Life I played it for 5 hours straight (The most ive ever spent playing a video game consecutively) I just could not get enough! The silence of Gordon Freeman not only makes you feel like your the hero, but strangely, I think it gives him more personality than most characters that do speak. If anyone has not played Half Life, than your life as a gamer is no where near complete, Half Life- My all time favorite FPS

To Kill a Mocking Bird: School Play version

As you may know, im a huge film buff and I love to act, I have been in several community and school plays, but this is the first time im trying out for the lead role! The play is the school adaption of To Kill a Mockingbird, and I will be trying out for the role of Atticus Finch, in preperation for this ive been practicing Atticus' court speech in the movie. Tryouts are next Saturday, Wish me luck, im gonna need it :D oh and anyone who has Xbox Live I finally got Gold Membership, my Gamertag is teh solid snake :)

Argh!!!!!

So today I looked into my wallet only to find that my dads roommates girlfriend stole $150 out of my wallet. Lovely!

Old English and Crappy B Movies

"Thy milkshake doth bringeth all ye gentlefolk to the yard, and they're like, it's better than thine, verily, it's better than thine; I could teach you, but I must levy a fee"- My English teacher  So we are reading Romeo & Juliet in English and i find it funny on how this is how people spoke then, its not odd, i mean i can comprehend it very well, but I cant imagine me speaking that 24/7 lol

Earlier today I was watching Mystery Science Theater and they were mocking this horrible Italian Super hero movie called Puma Man.Yeah its as dumb as it sounds! Its probably the worst super hero movie ever made, yes even worse than Batman and Robin :o Ive been watching alot of MST3K lately, and the more i watch the more i wonder, did the creators actually watch these movies? I mean if they had a brain they would know that this movie is horrible and will be mocked and panned by pretty much everyone!

Well thats it for this blog, im gonna get back on and play Bad Company 2! :D bye!
