I'm not sure, but maybe teens have always been stupid. It's just that since we have easier means of communication, like the internet, so we always hear stories of teens doing something idiotic because word spreads fast on the web.

It isn't perfect. I have a brother that's two years older than me. While he's usually nice and will help me out sometimes, we would get into fights all the time when we were younger. I have a friend who has a younger brother who annoys the hell out of him. So I think if you have an older brother you grow up thinking of him as a jerk and if you have a younger brother you grow up seeing him as incredibly annoying.
