I am really confused about the component cable deal. I bought a set of Universal component cables from GameSpot, for Xbox360, XBox and PS2. PS2 and 360 work great. But my Xbox (Version 1.6) would only work on the composite connection on this same set. (Cable Set has the three Component, 2 Stereo and a yellow for composit (Mad Catz Legacy)). Doing a little research I find that you have to have the HD AV Pack or do some jumpering on the motherboard. Just having component cables won't work. Do you guys who are just using component cables have a modded unit? Found a HD AV Pack on Ebay for 9.95 plus 9.95 shipping (20 dollars sounds like a steal as hard as they are to come by). Should have it in the next couple of days, will let you know how it all works out. I have a PS2 Slim (79001) and the XBox I bouught used from Gamespot for 60 bucks, the price of a new game for the 360 or the PS3, hard to turn that down. Actually find I play the Xbox more then the PS2. New to gaming, trying to learn how to play games.......bought my son a PS3 for Christmas and he has been making me look silly playing against him. So I bought a PS2 then the XBox so that when I go over to his house, I can give him some competition. Now don't snicker at this old man, (64 years old) playing games!!!!!

Did what you suggested and and the guy at GameSpot told methat I would need a HD AV Adapter to get component output. Have read on line that many people are using Component cables and that the original xbox did have component output. Don't know whether to bother trying to find a HD AV adapter on ebay or not. Any other suggestions? Thanks for your input.

Thanks, looks like I must be missing something. Will look for answers from the two of you. Hate to buy the HD AV set, if I can get my componet cables to work. Like I say my new PS2 works fine with the universal component cables, but like the way the old XBox plays better, the graphics just aren't as good as I would like. By the way I am anewbie at this, bought my son a PS3 and he really burns me playing games. So I bought the PS2 new and a used XBox from GameSpot to try to learnhow to play these things so I don't look so lame playing him. I am an old fogie who was raised on pinball machines. Appreciate the help.

Thanks again. Will look for your reply. I wonder if I need the HD AV cable setup from microsoft, instead of the one from Mad Catz.

Thanks for the reply. The problem is I do not have any choices except "Regular", "LetterBox" and Widescreen. I choose "Widescreen" and still have no other choices. Probably because I am in composite mode as I get no picture in component mode. Any suggestions will be more then appreciated. Thanks

Purchased a set of Gamespot (Mad Catz) Universal Component Cable Legacy (for Xbox360,Xbox and PS2). Have an Original Xbox and a PS2 (Slim 79001) connected. PS2 works like a charm in both the Composite and Component settings on my Gateway 21 inch Computer Monitor which has S-Video, Composite, Component, VGA and DVI inputs. However, the Xbox gives me a "No Signal Detected" in the component mode, but works great in the compositemode (Actual the composit mode onthe XBox looks almost as good as the PS2 in Component Mode). Question1: Does the Xbox really have Component Output? In the Settings located in the MS DashBoard I have the option for Widescreen, however no resolutions to choose from. Question: Do I need to update my MS DashBoard to get the additional settings? Thanks for any assistance, sounds like most of you on this board know a lot more then I do about gaming systems so am looking forward to hearing your suggestions. Thanks.
