I didn't play Borderland 1, because everyone recommended me to buy Borderland 2. I watched gameplays http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RCUZQYe6ZPs and it looked great, so I grab it! Honestly - I don't regret it at all :)
Dragonborn give you a lot of opportunities in game. If you played Morowind - you'll like it. It has similar climate and soundtack. Generally Downguard is good, but Dragonborn rocks!
