i consider the industry as it is flawed for many reasons, but i know that one day it'll change.
one day, graphics will be photorealistic and unable to be improved upon and cheap to create too, since computer technology will develop further, but graphics won't (the human eye can't perceive hyperrealistic imagery) , so the ''old'' photorealistic technology will become cheap, also leading to cheap consoles.
if devs want to sell a game, graphics would be out of the equation, because photorealism will be the norm. game development will be 100% gameplay, like in the days of the NES. i hope i live to see that day.
meh, i think killzone has more potential, since it's set in a fictional universe, while all big shooters almost ''have'' to take place in the modern age, you can change the places, but eventually you're spent. battlefield has built up a fanbase that won't expect anything less than ''realism''.
also, i really like how shadow fall looks so far, so i'll give it a chance and i think you should too.
it's true, but i imagine this is not the final product yet: there are some awkward animations, some odd things (he shoots an enemy with a shotgun at practically point-blank, yet the guy fall towards him).
i'm not saying that some reviews aren't influenced by money (i'll never forget kane and lynch gamespot, never), but most aren't or at least you shouldn't assume the more complicated option.
even if gamespot were to have given a universally hailed game like uncharted 3 a 2, i'd respect that, because a review is personal. just because it's a gaming site and lots of people watch their reviews doesn't mean that the reviews are or have to be objective. viewers decided that these reviews are more creditable, because the people who do them are more experiences, but can't wrap their head around it when those same people dislike something they like.
if we start using different standards for different games, it'll just get confusing. you want good reviews, you make a good game. there are plently of small indie devs who've made it big by just being original and making a good game.
i'm actually happy that we use the same standards for every game, since it forces devs to be more creative.
