“We’re focusing on pure Quake gameplay,” id Software's Tim Willits said during the QuakeCon presentation. To Willits, the core components of a Quake game are: player movement and speed, rocket jumps, and no weapon loadouts. The lack of weapon loadouts in particular got Willits animated. “If you want a gun, you go pick it up!” he shouted. “You time the pick-up right, or you kill an opponent and take it. That’s how you get a gun in a Quake game!”

Speed and rocket jumps make an appearance as well. The footage shows a player bunny hopping and rocket jumping around the stone walkways of a cathedral, and it's, well, extremely fast.

In addition to different class skills, some classes will be faster than others. “The classes only add value to gameplay,” Willits said. The team started with a really great Quake game, he says, and then added depth and nuance with character classes. For team matches, character selection is also meant to add a layer of strategy.

Quake Champions is expected to begin closed beta testing sometime next year. That's still a good distance away, but you can sign up for future updates atquake.com.

Most PCs connected to steam are laptops, not desktops. That's where this number comes from.

I broke this down in a post over a month ago. Basically from the Steam survey I estimate there are over 25 million gaming PCs more powerful than a PS4 out there right. It's also a very conservative estimate.

I found it:

Let's just do some quick math based on Steam's surveys alone. According to Kotaku there are over 125 million Steam accounts that are active. There are more Steam accounts than that, but let's just use the active ones and cull out the non active accounts. Steam accounts are also a very good indication of PC users at least in North America and Europe. Especially in the US, you'll be incredibly hard pressed to find a PC gamer without a Steam account. Europe is a bit different with Eastern Europeans opting out of Steam Accounts at a little higher rate for alternatives, but in general most Europeans have Steam accounts. Steam isn't as popular in Asia either, so there are probably a lot more PC gamers without Steam accounts in Korea, China, and Japan. I don't know the numbers and Valve does not release them so I'm just going on what I know from interacting with other communities.

Now according to the Steam Hardware Surveys that are taken each month, which properly represents the entirety of the Steam user base within a pretty small margin of error, we can gather how many PCs are more powerful than PS4s. I'll just grab a handful of GPUs that I know more powerful than a PS4. I'll miss a few but I'll get the big ones with the most sales. Note, this is for June, the July statistics have not been released so the GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 won't be on this list. I'm also skipping mobile GPUs, but I do know the latest run of AMD and Nvidia mobile GPUs are more powerful than the PS4.

Nvidia GTX 9705.05%6,312,500
Nvidia GTX 9603.42%4,275,000
Nvidia GTX 750ti2.85%3,562,500
Nvidia GTX 7601.95%2,437,500
AMD Radeon HD 7900 Series1.42%1,775,000
AMD Radeon R9 200 Series1.30%1,625,000
Nvidia GTX 7701.19%1,487,500
Nvidia GTX 9801.01%1,262,500
Nvidia GTX 980ti0.94%1,175,000
Nvidia GTX 7800.51%637,500
Nvidia GTX 6800.32%400,000
Nvidia GTX 780ti0.24%300,000
AMD Radeon R9 390 Series0.21%262,500
Total20.41%25,512,500

So based on this quick and dirty research on how many Steam computers there are that more powerful than a PS4, I came up with over 25 million. Last I checked the PS4 was sitting around 35 million. That's not as big of a difference as you might think.

There are probably a few million more gaming PCs more powerful than a PS4, and that number will increase each year.

This was taken from the June 2016 Steam hardware survey.

There are more user with 970 than 750 ti?!

Forza 6 Apex has been great on PC, so I'm sure Horizon 3 will be great.

It won't sell on PC as much as it'll sell on Xbox One because that's where its fanbase is.

The game is a "play anywhere" title so aren't the sales the same? Buy it once, play it on PC and Xbox One. I doubt the platform it was actually purchased on will be tracked.

You're acting as if the PCMR has standards. The Steam "top sellers" list is proof enough of that.

I can't argue with this. Ark and Warframe are currently in the top 10. PC only gamers could probably be considered more "casual" than console gamers now. I know that comment will upset some, but it's the truth.

Both games are neither terrible and can be quite enjoyable. And I haven't seen anything warframe related in the top seller for a very long time. Ark also did well on the xbox one as I can recall. PC gamer aren't the ones hyping NMS you can easily that the very definition of casual.

What part?

PC can use both OpenGL OR DirectX. DirectX has supported multi-core processors since at least DX9. The degree to which multi-core processors are supported (i.e. how many cores) is up to the game developer.

I ask you to name the games that you know of that used more then 1 to 2 cores. I wait for the list take your time.

Duke Nukem - 3 core

Witcher 2 - 4+ core

Crysis 2 Ultra settings - 3 fast cores

Bulletstrorm - 3 core

Crysis 3 - 8 cores

BF4- 8 cores

You found 4 games. Now explain why thousands of other games don't use it if so easy to implement?

Because many games don't need more than two cores especially lower indie games. I given more than just four games.

Far Cry 4 uses more than two cores

Supreme Commander uses 4 corezs

Does he actually think more core means better performance?

What are those games that look amazing on PC compared to consoles? There seeing more performance using the 7 cores out of 8.

Uncharted 4 not evidence enough the PS4 CPU is good for gaming. Trying run that game using a dual core on PC and at 1080p

Try having the PS4 run a totalwar game from the last 8 years and watch it splutter because it can't handle the cpu load. I wouldn't call UC4 a cpu heavy game, at all. It's the same reason why ARMA isn't on consoles, the cpu of consoles is too feable.

PS4 CPU has 8 cores and so has the xbox one CPU

8 slow ass cores. They're consoles man, built to run cool in a compact form factor while being affordable.

More cores =/= better for gaming, comparing the CPUs in consoles to even relatively low end PC "gaming" processors is lulzy.

@tormentos: cuz no one plays it on PC

Same with bf4/battlefront, most are console players.

hermits only care about F2P games and MMOs

CS:GO on PC dwarfs BF4 on all platforms combined even Arma 3 can peak higher than BF4 on PC, so it wrong to say its only just F2P and MMO. PC has much more online games to play than console.

Walking around a space craft simulator is what this game will be like? :P

Seriously, I was hoping for more real game-play on this cuz I really don't know much about it but know many are hyped for it.

Well it was a video focusing on the ship. And there are plenty of gameplay on youtube that has been shown here countless times.
