Best Buy is so notorious for stuff like this. Their "Geek Squad" offers things like setting up your PS3 for you and updating its firmware for like $150. They also offer to install game updates for your new game purchases for similarly outrageous amounts of money. It's quite a low marketing scheme on their part, and doesn't exactly gain them much consumer trust (besides the idiots they prey off of).

[QUOTE="bluem00se"]I enjoyed CoD4 online a lot for about 3 months, then it got old and I went back to Halo 3. Ditto with MW2. In fact, just about every shooter with a good online component (KZ2, Uncharted 2, Gears of War series, etc.) I play a lot of online for about 2 months, then get bored and go back to Halo. In terms of online gaming, Halo's the only game that never gets old for me. So it's really a matter of preference, I have nothing against CoD. I probably will wind up getting Black Ops too.parvie
...and then going back to Halo.

Haha yep! The cycle goes on... but I will be going back to Reach instead of Halo 3!

If anyone has seen Hot Tub time Machine, it should play out like the guy with the arm in that movie. They make it look like Carmine's gonna die like 50 times but then he actually emerges from incredibly dangerous situations without a scratch. Then kill him off in the very last scene hahaha.

There are a ton of good games out this gen, but I do feel that last generation was much better. The PS2 in particular had the broadest array of immersive, single player, story-driven experiences. Those types of games can really suck you into the game completely. Nowadays, I think what's ruined much of that feel is the inclusion of online play. Devs get lazy and greedy: they can now release buggy games and patch them later, and they can sell an incomplete game and charge more for DLC later on. They tack on online multiplayer and don't focus as much attention on the single player. This generation still has a handful of gems (MGS4, Heavy Rain, Valkyria Chronicles spring to mind in terms of total immersion) but the era of the PS2 was by far the best. It's why time and time again I find myself re-playing the entire MGS series, FFX, FFVII, and many other old PS2/PS1 games. The online components of this generation are as bad for gaming as they are good for it.

Makes level grinding easier so I didn't mind lol. I enjoyed FFXIII thoroughly and platinumed it, but it's definitely not among the best of the series. I had many issues with the game when I started playing it, but by the end I still had lots of fun with it. Plus the story was really good

I recommend installing all games to your HDD minus Halo 3 (only game I know of that has a downside to installing). I don't know why people don't really talk about another bonus of installing games besides shorter load times and a quiet 360: it pretty much eliminates the RROD, at least in my experience. I've had 3 360's that RROD'd on me prior to the NXE update. Once that came out, my 3rd 360 RROD'd right around that time. The next one I got, which was an even older model, I upgraded the HDD to 120GB and began to install every game I played (minus Halo 3). I've never had a problem with the 360 since. I'm pretty sure the lack of the disc drive running causes the system to run cooler. I had that 360 for over a year, before I sold it for a new arcade unit because I wanted the HDMI output. While I recognize that the newer models are more reliable, still I installed every game to the HDD and have never had a single issue with it. So it could just be luck, but I'm pretty sure that installing games to the HDD drastically cuts down the risk of overheating your system.

Would be nice but 480 x 272 resolution on a big screen looks terrible. I have the cable to connect my PSP to my TV but I rarely use it because it just blows up the pixels and makes the image look worse. And it doesn't even take up the whole screen! If they enhanced the resolution for PS3 though I'd use the feature though definitely

I count 23 PS3 game cases on my shelf, but that doesn't include all the PSN downloads. If you add those in I'd say around 40ish

I got the LE day 1 and loved it. I actually am the opposite of most people... I actually didn't have high expectations for RDR because the Red Dead Revolver was only an average game. That, and I had RDR confused with Gun and thought that it would suck lol. So I was much more excited for Wake. Of course I was wrong and picked up RDR 2 weeks later (and loved it). But Alan Wake actually overshadowed RDR for me, as I had been waiting for AW for years.
