Reasons IMO I think the new Halo 3 "Beta" video just happened to be "leaked" onto the net.
- Video makes a timely appearance just as Bungie is being trashed for releasing "Alpha" footage with crap graphics, newly "leaked" video shows far better performance to appease haters.
- The video had nothing new in it, and showed very little of what new things there are.
- The map, c'mon, they didn't even release a video of a new map in action, just a re-make of a map everyone already knows.
- The video is a direct feed from a playing station. I doubt Bungie let's testers stroll in with portable hard drives, hook them up to the recording computer and then leave with them intact with the hopes that they won't leak the footage.
- The words "Beta Version" listed on the screen the entire time. Now I have never beta tested anything so I could be horribly wrong on this point buy why tell the testers it is the beta on the screen the entire time. This helps my point number 1, the video can be confirmed as beta material.
I was listening to CNN earlier today and I was shocked to hear some left wing guy claim "I will bet my last dollar that the VT shooter was addicted to videogames!"
As a gamer of 10 years, this seems like a slap in the face. When did videogames become the scapegoat for all violent crimes committed by people under 30 years old? Every time a shooting, assault or even rape occurs by a younger male, the violent videogame argument comes out. I hate this arguement because they never include the obvious problems of the arguement such as......................
If videogames cause all this violence, what caused violence before videogames? Violent videogames have been around since the late 80's, but last time I checked we had a ton of human history filled with young violent offenders.
Also, even if the offender does play, or is even addicted, to videogames, what if it is Madden? Or the Sims? What about all the non-violent games out there that people get hooked on. Second life? Mario? and sports games, puzzle games, or games with violence that is not possible for an average person (WWII games, flight sims, RTS games). It seems the only games that can give violent idea's are the free roaming, GTA type games, with some FPS's thrown is as well.
What do you guys think of this, do you think this hate of videogames in general is becoming a huge sterotype? And do you think games can have influence on violence?
