I think it's primarily because of achievements and trophies. Like, just imagine how easy it would be to get the really hard achievements/trophies in certain games if you had a god code entered. While some games still have them, with or without disabling the trophies.achievements, I think developers are starting to do away with them in order to put the game on an even playing ground for everyone in the beginning.

ooh yeah i hate a game with bad controls.. but bad gameplay is what i think makes a game bad. It can have a good story and look nice, but if the gameplay sucks then the game just wont be so good.SoNin360
