I think before the Wii a lot of us Nintendo fans kind of blindly followed them and believed they could to do no wrong. The Wii seemed like a cool new innovative way to present games and since it was this company that we trusted a lot to create quality products, many of us rushed out to wait in line and get it. After many years of few and far between even decent games, and of having to come to the harsh reality that the Wii was almost entirely just a gimmick, I think most of us have moved on to realize that Nintendo is just another scummy business trying to turn a dollar. They lost all of our trust and faith in them, and we had to start to be cautious about what we bought from them. Now we don't just rush out to buy their new console because we know it is a quality product and there will be good games for it, we wait to see if there actually are good games first and then try to decide if the money is worth it compared to what else is available.
So do you really think that a few Mario/Zelda/DK games rehashed for the 17th time are going to undo the work of 7-8 years of a horrible gimmicky console with few decent games Iwata? That sort of thing takes time and hard work and quality products, and I just don't see it from Nintendo these days.
I believe computer sales could be down because computers don't go obsolete nearly as fast as they once did. 5 years is nothing for a decent computer these days, whereas at one time 6 months would be enough to make it obsolete.
Yes, obviously a bad to mediocre game will have worse sales if you let people try it first. A good game, however seems like it can only benefit. I have definitely bought games after playing a demo before.
