I think Wii is a step forward for sure, but not because of Zelda: TP...in fact I think it's a very odd fit for the system, it still feels like a Gamecube game.  I'm holding in my impulsive "Wows" for stuff like Super Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime later this year.

[QUOTE="tidus222"]

platforming isnt really its own genre anymore

it kind of got molded into action/adventure type games

like god of war has platforming sections,

jak 2, and jak 3 also have platforming

Slyprince

a platformer is generally has an E to T rating

Conker's Bad Fur Day.  You lose.

That's very true but Banjo and Mario are both straight-up platformers.

No because I still get to play them and I don't have to pay $200 extra to do it.

You can't expect very many actual game releases this soon after launch.  I think it's a good thing Nintendo is at least using the VC to hold you over with nostalgia until some big releases come.

I think games like Monkeyball, Rayman, Wii Sports, Twilight Princess and Elebits already define it.PikaPichu

Elebits I think is a step in the right direction, but the others you mentioned just seem like diversions to hold us over until the real potential is revealed.  Monkeyball's control scheme is neat, but when you think about it, it's basically turning the wiimote into a glorified analog stick, and I already mentioned why stuff like Rayman, Wii Sports and Twilight Princess don't quite define the system for me.

Along with Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3 could also show us how the Wii could be a more immersive controller than standard ones.

Okay, so I've got this Wii here that my brother bought and it's just came in, and I find myself not playing it much.  I think the system's got a lot of potential to be a really fun experience, but so far since it's just launched it doesn't have that one game that just encompasses everything that the Wii stands for.  Zelda is still a Gamecube game, even though it's got some nifty control features and Wii Sports and WarioWare are basically just minigames, not cohesive ones.

So just as an interesting question, is there a game already announced for Wii that you think will define the system or what do you think that game will be?

Looking at the titles announced so far I think Super Mario Galaxy has the most potential to be the Wii-defining game.

Gonna have to go with pleasure 2 since pleasure 1 starts to not become efficient enough as you grow older and get used to the type of games that you can just pick up and play.  There's more of a wow factor with bigger, more immersive "artful" games that have only just recently stepped into the gaming industry, at least for me.

I like this topic because it pretty much states and labels my exact thoughts about the Wii vs. the 360.
