WW2 is still an excellent setting for games. It's just that developers are getting lazy, and not exploring different aspects of the conflict. As an earlier poster stated, practically every WW2 game has an Omaha beach level, and they're nearly all set in Normandy and North Africa with you playing as either the British or Americans. I remember the reason I was so excited with the original Call of Duty was because it had Soviet missions set on the Eastern Front, which was a novel concept for a WW2 FPS at the time.

I got GRAW as a free pack-in from NewEgg for buying my Core 2 Duo processor. I knew it had to be crappy if they were just giving it away, and I was right. And I'm not even talking about technical issues, because I didn't experience any. It was an excellent, highly polished game on the X360, but just very half-assed on PC. It's clear that the developers just didn't care about the PC version. I also agree that the Rainbow Six franchise has gone downhill since moving to consoles. I played the original back in the day, and it was a thinking man's shooter that required careful planning and good use of stealth. Now it's just another braindead halo-esque run n' gun console shooter.

Guns are just tools. People are good or evil. Take away the guns and ordinary citizens can no longer defend themselves from criminals and whackos like the guy at VT, who would still find other ways to get ahold of guns. If I were there he would have had a nice taste of my FN Five-Seven.

[QUOTE="cmdrmonkey"]

The second amendment is the reason the US is still a democracy. A government should have a healthy fear of its citizens. It only takes one bullet to kill a tyrant. Look at the rise of fascist nations throughout history. One of the first rights they revoke is the right to bear arms. Moreover, the US would not exist at all without personally owned firearms. How do you think the colonists formed a successful rebellion against the British? There are plenty of perfectly legitimate reasons to own firearms, such as personal protection, hunting or target shooting. Getting rid of the guns doesn't get rid of violent crime. Criminals will just use other weapons or obtain firearms through illegal means, and regular law abiding citizens will no longer have a way to protect themselves. We can't let fear govern our decision making with such fundamental rights.

And in this particular case, it wasn't the guns' fault, it was the fault of the psychopath who went on a rampage.

-Karayan-

You do realize that other countries get along just fine with gun restrictions?

 This is America. Why don't we just ban freedom of speech while we're at it because people say offensive things? If you oppose the second amendment, you don't understand this country at all. The second amendment is designed specifically to give citizens the ability to defend themselves should the government become tyranical. IF anything, the founding fathers would probably be happy that we have access to powerful weapons.

That's why I was reading horror stories out of Britain a few years back, in Manchester I believe, about violent gangs going around breaking into homes and terrorizing people people who had no way to defend themselves.

And how many of those countries have been democracies for 200+ years?

1. The Geforce 6200 is a budget card that's not really meant for intense gaming, and it's certainly not going to be able to drive the resolution of your new monitor. I could use choice expletives to tell you how awful that card is, but I'll spare you. The 6800GS is pretty decent, so you might want to try getting it to work again. Is the fan bad? Because you can buy aftermarket GPU heatsinks/fans, although that might be more money than it's worth. You might also have an inadequate power supply for the 6800GS.

2. Never trust places like GeekSquad, KompUSSR, etc. Generally speaking, they have no idea what they're talking about, or they're out to rip you off, or both. Just because someone works for Geeksquad doens't mean they know jack about computers. The fact that they replaced a 6800 with a 6200 as equivalent is evidence enough of that. Quality tech support is rare these days. Your best bet is to do a little reading and learn how to do things for yourself.

The golden age of PC gaming was in the late 90s. PCs were so much more technologically advanced  and capable at the time than consoles, it's hard to even compare the two. PCs could display convincing high resolution 3d graphics and had online play in the late 90s, while those things were still years away for the consoles. And of course you had butt-loads of great games, like Half-Life/CS, StarCraft, Total Annihilation, Civilization 2, Rainbow Six, C&C: Red Alert, System Shock 2, FreeSpace 2, Homeworld, Deus Ex (actually came out in 2000, but who cares?)...and the list goes on.

From time to time I see a slight resurgence in PC gaming (2004 was a pretty good year with Half-Life 2 and FarCry), but nothing I would deem a "new golden age."
