Mod Queue Bug Fixes

Along with a number of features we rolled out today, came a few bug fixes as well. One of the main bugs we were trying to squash was where some editors were seeing 'stray' submissions in their moderation queues - submissions for shows that they were not editors for. I believe I have fixed the bug, but I would like some verification from the editors who were seeing the problem. Gislef, VillaFan and LauraMeyer were seeing this bug - could you guys post back and let me know if it is still an issue. Thx. Sean

You Send It.com

For everybody unfamiliar with YouSendIt.com. Here is the lowdown: Website: YouSendIt.com Registration: There is no need for registration. How it works: If you have an icon set or some show banners you would like to submit, simply follow these steps.
  • 1. Zip up all of everything you would like to submit.
  • 2. Go to www.yousendit.com
  • 3. Set the recipient's email address as your own email address.
  • 4. Select the zip you would like to upload and do so. Yousendit will not email the actual zip to you. It basically stores the file on its servers for seven days and simply emails you a link to download that file (it is a very cool service).
  • 5. As soon as you receive the link in your email, copy and and PM it to any TV.com staff member.
  • 6. We'll download the zip and see if it can be used by TV.com
So that's about it - if you have questions, please post them and we'll see if we can't get everyone squared away.

Who wants to be an editor for Chappelle's Show?

I became the editor of this guide because I wanted to clean up the episode synopses for Chappelle's Show and add some good quotes - both of which I feel I have accomplished. Anyway, there are about 70+ submissions in the queue - and to be honest, I don't have the time to continue to moderate your submissions. With that said, I would like to turn the guide over to a responsible editor. Please post if you're interested - I would like to hand the guide over by the middle of this week. Sean

Episode Numbering Tool: Release Notes

The Episode Numbering Tool will be released this afternoon to all of you editors. We'll do a production push around 5:00 this afternoon at which point I'll post the url for the tool. The URL for this tool is: http://www.tv.com/index.php?sect=episode_numbering&show_id=YOUR_SHOW_ID&type=9 *YOUR_SHOW_ID -> will need to be replaced by the actual show id of the show you wish to edit. To find this id, navigate to the show you wish to change - while on the Show Summary page, look at the web address. There should be one number set in the web address, that is the show id. ---------------- Functionality: ---------------- This tool will provide editors with an interface to re-number and re-order their episode guides. ---------------- Why its cool: ---------------- A number of editors and users alike have been complaining that they cannot submit episode synopses b/c they are getting an error due to "Conflicting Episode Numbers", even though they are not editing the episode number in any way. This tool will enable the editors of these guides to 'clean up' the episode numbers so that users will no longer get these errors when trying to submit information. ---------------- General Use: ---------------- * I think the form is fairly self explanatory, but that's prolly cause I wrote it ;)... The editor is presented with a form that groups all of the show's episodes into its seasons. Within each season box, you'll see each season's episodes in chronological order along with a dropdown box to select the season, a text box to edit the season episode number, another text box to edit the lifetime episode number, and a final textbox to edit the episode's name. * Sooo, using this tool - you can quickly re-number/re-order any episodes you want. You can even move episodes into other seasons if its needed. * To detach an episode from a season - select the N/A season option and the episode will get thrown into the 'Other Seasons' category. * When you complete your changes and click 'Submit', you'll be taken to verification page that will allow you to view your changes before you commit them. ---------------- Limitations: ---------------- 1. You cannot leave room for empty episodes - I suggest you leave the form, create a new blank episode as a place holder, then come back and order the blank episode. 2. There still might be some bugs with shows that have weird season data carried over from the Tome... things like the show has season 1 and season 3, but does not have season 2. You will not be able to throw a show into season two as the season dropdown will only show N/A, 1, 3. We're working on a fix for this. 3. You cannot remove episodes using this form. PM 'waltmor' if you need an episode removed. 4. Please note that this tool does not do automatic pushes. There are a number of reasons for this, but the primary reason is becuase of the nature of this tool's functionality. We cannot let editors (albiet trusted editors) make sweeping guide changes on the fly like this. So, when you submit the form - a request is sent to our data team who will review your changes and approve/reject them. These requests will have an inflated point score so that they will be dealt with quickly. That's it for now.... in testing it was pretty stable, but I'm sure they'll be some issues here and there - please PM me if you find bugs and I'll push fixes on a daily basis until its stable. Feature enhancements, on the other hand are nice, but I will be moving on to another cool tool for you guys, so all enhancement requests will be noted, but not acted upon until a later date.

Finally Home.... and updates

Hey guys, just back from an insane trip down to San Diego and its back to work. The biggest thing I'm working on from a general user standpoint is the episode numbering interface. Right now its pretty much non-existent and I understand that it is causing quite a bit of trouble for editors and users who cannot submit episode info because of episode numbering conflicts. Instead of going through each guide myself and fixing the episode number conflicts, I'm going to be building a tool for the editors of each show so that they can quickly name, number and order each episode - it will look and function similar to how you build and order your queue on Gamefly. I'll be working on this tool this week and I hope to have it up by Friday. You guys rock - hope everybody had a great 4th of July weekend! coonce

One way ticket on the haul ass express....

Hey guys... Wanted to let everyone know that I will be out of the office and partying like a rockstar down in San Diego from today (June 30) to Wednesday July (June 6). Soooo... after putting some finishing touches on some of the moderator tools today, I'm out. Two Things: 1. To all users/editors who I've been promising to fix episode numbers for.... please be patient - I WILL deal with all of these requests on Thursday when I get back. (first thing - i swear) 2. Icon Sets -> if you have finished an icon set and would like it published -> zip up all of your .gifs and post them to www.yousendit.com ... its free and there is no registration fee. Once you have the download link you can PM it to me. I will be checking my PM inbox every so often so feel free to write - but I will not be able to make any changes until I get back. Thanks - have a great 4th of July weekend everyone :) Sean

Episode Number Inquiries

I have received a number of PMs from various users detailing incorrect episode numbers for a variety of shows. I just wanted to let you all know that I WILL be getting to these soon but that I have a few more pressing issues that I must attend to first. Just wanted to let you all know that I have received your PMs and I will be modifying the ep guides accordingly. Thank you all for your feedback and look for the clean up to come either at the end of this week or the beginning of next. Thanks.
