I live in Dublin, and we get a lot of tourists so there must be something about it. A lot of people come here on 'drinking holidays', and it definitely does have the atmosphere to meet those expectations.

My partner is from Lisbon, which is an amazing city, and extremely cheap too.

I have a GTX 970 which I find is more than enough. I generally tend to upgrade every year though, or at least 'sidegrade' to a GPU with a lower TDP, like last year when I went from a 290x to a 970, little less performance, but uses half the power, and is silent in comparison.

A GTX 970 though, will absolutely max out every one of those games you've listed. 290x will also be a decent choice, but NVIDIA drivers are far better in my experience.

I would also say that Sony will do something with PlayStation Now to combat Microsoft's recent backwards compatibility announcement, perhaps even make it free (or give free credits) as part of Plus.

Saying that, a second hand PS3 can be had for very little money these days, and the vast majority of the back catalogue can be had for pennies. If you want to play the latest and greatest, get a PS4. If you don't mind playing games that have since left the collective zeitgeist, then get a PS3. Keep in mind that PS4 is getting some of the better PS3 games in Remastered form, and it may just be the best place to play them.

I'd bet everything on there being HD re-releases on Wii U...They sort of did it on Wii, but only for Metroid, Pikmin, Donkey Kong and Mario Tennis...I'm surprised they didn't do more.

It makes sense for Nintendo to use an existing kernel for their OS...but when has Nintendo done anything that makes sense?

Well, considering the original Prime games were running on a modified version of UE2, this is very believable..

Metroid Prime runs on a very heavily modified version of Unreal Engine 2. You can certify this to yourself by looking at the text box next to Asset_CMDL_EditorModel. Notice the word ?/cooked/? in there.

For those of you who have worked with the Unreal Engine, you?ll know what this is, else, you might wanna read. Cooking is a term for compiling all of the maps, scripts, materials, etc. you?ve made into one usable executable, or ?game?. It was used primarily for consoles, although now support has come out for PC cooking, resulting in faster loading times.

They also used Unreal?s level streaming feature. This is highly detailed in Unreal Engine 3, but was also present in 2. It?s funny how Retro got a private license for this stuff yet never sought to bring it out.

I also can confirm some UnrealScript source files exist on disk, which I am attempting to extract. Will probably branch this off into a separate thread for loads of fun and wackiness.

[QUOTE="havokmaster"]

I've been a long time PC gamer, but I recently got a job as a Software Engineer, so when I finish work, the last thing I want to do is sit at a PC. I've just sold my desktop and I am planning on buying a TV and a current gen console.

I've played most of the big games this generation, including console exclusives on both 360 and PS3 as I previously had access to these consoles.

The obvious three choices:

  • PS3: Have played most of the big exclusive games on PS3, with the exception of Uncharted 3. Bluray playback is a plus.
  • 360: As with PS3, I have played most of the big exclusives, and am not really a fan of their flagship titles like Halo, Forza etc.
  • Wii: Haven't played a whole lot on Wii, and am interested in a handful of games, but seems like the platform is dead in the water at this point.

Basically, I want to know which is a better investment in terms of back catalogue, future prospects, and best third party experience. Only other gaming devices I own are a 3DS and a HTC One X. I'm personally leaning towards Wii or PS3.

Thanks,

-hvk

tenaka2

Software engineer finds PC's to much hassle.

Seems ligit.

No, when I sit at a desk using a PC for 12 hours a day, the last I want to do when I go home is sit at a PC to play games.
