[QUOTE="cpdowling"]OC'ing a E8400 is quite easy. You should be fine reaching 4ghz. Try knocking the FSB voltage up a bit and you should be able to raise the fsb a bit higher and make it to 4ghz (thats what i did). I have a very similar setup, you should be fine with that AC freezer 7 pro, it keeps mine cool at 4ghz.hartsickdiscipl

Thanks for the advice.. but I have to ask- is your E8400 a C0 or an E0 stepping? So far in my research this seems to make a lot of difference in overclocking results.

Never bothered to check before but it is an E0, sorry that i can't help, just try upping the FSB voltage and the cpu voltage a bit more.

netbooks aren't as bad as some people on this forum say. They aren't really fast but with a ram upgrade they are perfect for school. Plus most of them can get 8hr+ battery life with wifi off ect.

Could I also play games on a computer running on a workstation card, such as the Quadro card line for nVidia, and the Firestream from ATI? I was considering getting one, because I can get a huge discount from work, because we use AutoCAD. Would it play games well?Elemayo
If you are going to be working at home, its definitley worth it. If you are going to use it for games and whatnot, it isn't worth it, your better off going for a normal GPU

[QUOTE="Denex1"]

this will be the mobo i'm using.

what i'm considering right now is whether to purchase the q6600 or q9550. on newegg, the q6600 is 200USD (but out of stock ATM), 20 dollars cheaper than the q9550. i'm planning on doing some overclocking on an aftermarket cooler.

i have 2 gigs of RAM and have an 8800GT. current CPU is an e6300 @ 2.2ghz. the computer is mainly for gaming, although i will also be doing video editing/encoding and such.

don't waste your money wait for core i5 if you can but core i7 920 and 950 RIP.

The 775 cpu's aren't anywhere near dead, most people on the forum still have them and they still have a hell of alot of performance for the price. FYI. you don't need to fork out $800AU to have a high performing PC. The E8xxx series still is good for everyday tasks and the odd encoding/ editing

yeah via GPU's suck. They should still be able to play halo 1 though, i got a computer with 128mb of ram 1.6ghz processor and intergrated graphics to run it at a playable framerate. It musn't like the driver, type that model no into google with driver written after it.
