Okay so here goes. First off this whole topic is my personal opinion of what i see wrong with gaming if u don't agree i couldn't care less. Now I am a strong believer that pretty graphics and polish does NOT make for better games in some cases where games are nice and flashy but have very little content and exploration due to the fact that most of the production time went into the graphics.
I was most dissapointed especially with the last final fantasy and it's very linear gameplay. I would rather to get a new release final fantasy for intstance with the old playstation one graphics and the hugely explorable world format over another pretty looking point A to point B adventure this was a poor direction to take a final fantasy on square enix part.
Now on to the COD series this is where i have much heated debate with real life friends who mostly all agree with my opinion on it. The COD series is nothing more than a over hyped Cash cow from Infinity Ward or Treyarch alike. they have there cookie cutter copy/ paste formula method, accompanied by there ability to over hype anything with COD stamped to it. The games have not moved forward since COD 2 came out. Same formula, same mechanics. In my opinion all the releases of different COD games could have been nothing more than large addon packages to the original in COD 2 , gained killstreaks and a few different modes nothing major gained otherwise in gameplay experienced.
Thats my stand point on the mechanics and gameplay as for the campaign modes there nothing special either as they get shorter and shorter with every new COD game just a new story each time that is all. Still the same game nothing new as far as gameplay goes there either. The same problem applies to alot of other game series today examples being gears of war the first was revolutionary something completely new and out there , the second though did not deliever as it was just the first game with the addition of a few new weapons and chracters. Ghost recon again same thing. Rainbow 6 vegas also.
With all that being said i think game producers just get a set formula and if it's succesful the first time through they expect to be able to milk it as much as they can before everyone grows tired of the same things over and over and it eventually dies off. basically im tired of lazy series games when they don't shake things up some and add new mechanics to the gameplay as often as they should. Or they just overhype something that ends up being your run of the mil average game.
I remeber the days when duke Nukem maps and doom/quake were huge. Nowadays all you get is a straight line with a few turns and cut scenes in shooters. I would rather wait a few years for a game to be released and have something completely orginal and new than have a once a year edition with the same old same .
