You've never spent time with your Dad? If I ever had a kid, I'd want to be in a position where I'm his friend and father. Not some distant father who can't talk to his own son about things, like sports or girls. Besides, if I'm his friend, then he's prolly more likely to tell me some of his "secrets" or personal stuff.

That sounds like lying about it from the beginning to me instead of she doing it just because he doesn't likes it. And well yeah he can "let" her do whatever she wants but he is free to not be with her if she smokes simple as that, the blame isn't on him.
She said she doesn't smoke. I don't know when she said that (how far into the relationship), but if it was early, then she changed her mind. If it was late, then she lied because he was uptight. Have you never lied to you parents about something because you know they'd flip out on you if you told them the truth?

It's not really about a "little" freedom. It's the fact that she lied and that she is doing something the TC strongly dislikes in a partner, he right now has the right to GTFO if he desires. No, she lied to him because he is so uptight. She was afraid to tell him the truth. It's simple. If she wants to grow up, then the TC has to let her.
