@Gamerhomer @Heinpienaar123 It sounds to me like it's more a mini/micro itx PC. If that's true it could be a low cost entry into PC gaming and the console guys (M$, Sony) should be worried...
@FAIL_TR0LL @Trol1yFartsy @driftingsilvia Amish don't hang out on the internet but they don't completely reject modernity. It's only tech that pulls the community apart that is forbidden. So a car or phone can't be owned but an emergency cab ride to the hospital is fine. Interesting culture.
@neroist Thank you Neroist. I'm behind the curve on this. It now makes sense to me why Valve has an incentive to do a new hardware/OS. M$ is leaving a huge opening for them! This one is about no DirectX 12: http://www.i-programmer.info/news/144-graphics-and-games/5744-amd-no-directx-12.html
@Darth_Aloysius As long as I can play games on my PC in Windows (7 btw) I have choice among multiple retailers. My heartburn is that SteamOS will be required to use our Steam accounts at some point and developers no longer seeing the need for Windows ports. That would make Valve the owners of PC gaming. Valve is already crowding out the other retail sources now as I write this.
@pboontap @sigmact Any hardware or software that is truly "open" quickly becomes a commodity. You can't make profit off of a commodity so where is Valve's incentive to do this?
@Darth_Aloysius @red_city That's the first legit reason I've read here for wanting this. My concern isn't with the hardware, it's with the SteamOS. That thing just looks like trouble for PC gamers who enjoy great game prices on older titles because of Windows. I don't want to be forced to pay $60 for every virtual copy of a game I download.
