So many close minded people here... Clearly none of you like change.
When DVD came out did everyone switch overnight and throw out their VCRs? No.
When Blurays released did everyone switch overnight and throw out DVDs? No. (Well obviously they wouldn't throw out DVD's seeing as BR is backward compatible, but you see my point.)
When Windows 7 came out did everyone instantly switch? No, infact some people still use XP.
These things take time, no-one is suggesting Linux will rule the world next month...
What we are suggesting and can see is that this is a VERY big deal and probably the first large push toward Linux gaming as a standard. Valve is a big company with a lot going for them; they don't have any shareholders to report back to and are free to do as they wish. This whole new OS is a big step for PC gamers.
You all say 'why switch when windows does everything?'. Well there are various reasons I'll be very happy to switch, with the two notable ones being
- I don't support Microsoft and any way of boycotting them is something I'll consider.
- It has been proven games run better on OpenGL and Linux. Plus now Valve are suggesting even more increases in graphical performance. I don't know about you, but being a gamer I certainly don't mind some extra FPS.
And you can say all you want about 'People do more than just game', well yeah they do, but Linux already has plenty of FREE software to keep you covered. Sure it's rough around the edges but it's still there. You know why developers aren't making things for Linux? Because no-one uses it, it's not profitable. If this SteamOS pushes more people onto Linux, you can bet your arse companies like Adobe are going to port their programs over. To them, if they can make profit, then it's worth doing, and if consumers are using Linux more and Windows less, therefore resulting in a loss of sales, then companies will produce their applications for Linux also.
Again, it's not going to happen this year, or even next. However, given five years I will put money on the fact Linux will have a firm hold on the PC market. Windows will never die, but it will fade.
Well most games retail at $80-$90 in Australia anyway, but yes, the games you mentioned are higher than the average price, generally clocking in at $100-$110 per game. Even Steam sometimes is forced by publishers to ramp the price up for Australians. Greenmangaming was in the same situation and thought it unfair, therefore offered all Aussies a 10 year voucher that reduced the prices of inflated games back down to the standard $50-$60.

Step 1 - Watch Video for 10 seconds
Step 2 - Open new tab
Step 3 - Hit homepage (which should be steam, if it isn't make your homepage Steam!)
Step 4 - Pre-order X-Rebirth
Step 5 - Wait really patiently
Step 6 - When November comes, act like it's Christmas
Step 7 - Stay up until it's release, play for 24 hours straight
Step 8 - Play game forever
In all seriousness, it's sort of cool that this releases the day I graduate!
Kozzy is the game polished enough to be playable and enjoyable? This has been on my radar and I'll probably play it eventually, but doesn't have to be now if it feels like we are alpha-testers and not what could be seen as a full experience

That's what I love about the developers, the game could have been fully released 2 updates ago, but they still consider it alpha, and they'll keep updating it for a long time. They didn't just want a 'prison architecht' game, they want a fully fledge prison building and management simulation game, and they're working hard to acheive it. It does have some alpha feel to it, but it's definitely playable and fun!
That literally just convinced me to purchase the game :D
Also, not sure if inside joke, but Paradox does sort of have a way about being... different.
[QUOTE="Pinkscare"][QUOTE="FelipeInside"] But apart from the EA Sports stuff, all those other games aren't games by EA. FelipeInsideThey are a division of EA. Anyway, I don't care for those games. I prefer to keep my gaming through Steam as well. No big deal. That's fine, I wish everything was in one place forever (be it Steam, Origin whatever). Still, I don't think all those are divisions of EA, they are separate companies? And ur missing out on great titles too just because EA takes a small part in them.
"Dice is a swedish video game developer, wholly owned by Electronic Arts" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EA_Digital_Illusions_CE
"Visceral Games is an American video game development studio internally owned by Electronic Arts. They are perhaps best known for the critically acclaimed Dead Space series" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visceral_Games
All three of the games he mentioned are developed by EA-owned studios and published by EA.

[QUOTE="bobbetybob"]Eh, doesn't bother me in the slightest, I click the icon for the game and it opens after Origin loads, what's the big deal?FelipeInside
Won't buy origin games, probably bum loves Steam. the hypocricy. Nothing wrong with origin.MBirdy88But... But..... It's EA.... and it scans ur HDD for private files..... and uploads them to God for Judgement..... etc etc
Alright, you had your fun. Move on now.
