It's a payoff because it's EA and their money was at stake. I'm sure they invested a little in "security" for this, even if it didn't turn out to be necessary.
@xsonicchaos Well the argument wasn't "was the ending good" it was "was the advertising misleading." And it was fairly misleading, especailly in the context of Mass Effect 2 which had much more variety. EA is correct by technicality, but that doesn't make them not scum. The day's not over if EA hasn't paid someone off.
