Get a couple of arcade games instead.

Seriously this is not a good game, the achievements are a pain to get so it's not even worthwhile for that.

Beyond Good & Evil

One of the best games of the last cycle, for the 6 people who actually played it.

i'd tell you to get an ipod but i dunno why u hate that...-zonkey-

Every iPod my family bought -- and between all of us it was like a dozen -- every single one went bad shortly after warranty expired. Every single one. Bought in all different parts of the country, different models, different times, and they all went bad. The last one -- a Nano -- the clickwheel stopped working, Apple wants $250 to fix it. Lol.

Thanks for replies. I want the PSP because it has the best screen I've seen in a handheld and it plays games -- my mom the raging gambler wants a casino game she can play on the road.

Sounds like converting video is a snap, and 4 gig for $70 is awesome, so I'm going to go pick one up tomorrow.

I'm thinking of getting a PSP for my mom of all people. She's recently retired and now vacationing a lot, she wants a portable device that can play foreign tv shows, and she also likes casino games.

The DS is out since it doesn't have movie playback (no real casino games either), iPod is the alternative to the PSP. But I hate iPod.

What I'm wondering is, how easy/hard is it to get video on to the PSP? The stuff my mom watches are available as rentals and downloads, both in divx fvormat, the version varies. Most divx capable dvd players can play the files.

Are there apps that allow me to convert with a few button clicks, or is it a long and tedious encoding & resizing & etc process?

How much space does a 2 hour movie take up?

What memory card options do I have? Back when I considered getting a PSP for myself, what stopped me was the realization that just a couple of those mem cards costs almost as much as the PSP. I'm hoping prices have dropped a lot.

How long does the battery last, and is it easy to hotswap batteries?

HDMI does seem marginally superior to other connections, but it depends on your set. But HDMI's main purpose is digital rights management. All the hype about superior picture quality is just that -- hype and propaganda to get the lemmings on board. (It worked.)

This is one of the reasons I fear Blueray winning the format war, that will in short order lead to 1080p over hdmi only. Don't forget, Sony is a movie studio and is keenly interested in DRM, and Sony is also a tv maker, and it's keenly interested in forcing everyone to buy a new set for the next gen.

Long term, HDMI becoming the standard will severely constrain what we can do with media, bet on it.

Guy spends all his time comparing  price/sale points, completely ignores high selling new series like DR, GRAW, and LP, ignores Achievements and downloads (MS leads the video download industry atm), the surprising dev support (art written before DMC4 news, but he ignores Assassin's Creed, UT3, etc), continuing XBL penetration (50% is insane), and most of all -- the fact that 360 has set industry records for software attach rate.

It may well be that 360 will stall relative to Wii, or even PS3. But this guy, it's like he stopped paying any attention to 360 after launch except reading a few Google arts about Gears.

if Sony loses every good 3rd party game and even at the moment. it is in the favor of the 360. why? the 360 is cheaper and they have a franchise thats exlusive to 360 that Sony couldn't top if it made 100 games. that game is Halo 3 after this is released for 360 , sales for 360 will go thru the roof.peacebringer

Ok Halo3 will be huge and we all know this. But Sony has its own killer franchises. I don't know how you can assume Halo3 will move more consoles than the upcoming Sony juggernauts, especially when Halo2 was the most overrated game of the last cycle and the second most important market couldn't care less about Halo. Might happen but drop the assumption of inevitability.

As for 360 winning with multiplatform, sure, but I think you left out the key reasons -- Achievements and XBL.

It's a question of faith. If you have faith in PS3 sales continuing to rise, then you can take it on faith that LP and DR are coming in light of Capcom's stated reasons for porting DMC4. It'd be different if Capcom weren't making any PS3 games, then the cost of entry into Cell development might be too high, but Capcom needs to learn Cell anyway.

I think more than that there is the fact of the future MGS movie made by Sony Pictures which involves a LOT OF CASH for the creator and owner of the MGS franchise which basically means

MGS4 sales wont be as good cuz of the smaller PS3 fanbase but Konami and mr Kojima will recover that money with the MGS movie deal with Sony

while this is not final it at least is a safe measure for Konami

Are there any movies based on videogames that have done well? Usually when these two industries mix the result is Uwe Boll.
