I'm slightly confused. Why would Valve expect someone to by this over a PC with same specs or better? My only guess would be that this is cheaper, but that would mean they would have to limit the ability of the machine to only what they want it to do so they would make some profit???

Most people called the Playstation 3, PS3 and the Xbox 360, 360, but no one will ask their friends to go play "One". They had to shorten it somehow that didn't sound stupid. haha

You are right, but the problem is consoles have real "sponsors" to buy those exclusive. Ex. Sony, Microsoft. Who is fighting for PC? Kids with petitions and Valve with Steam?
