Is Battlefield 2 finally dead?
by dalger21 on Comments
I started playing BF2 back in late March of '06. The game was fun and exciting with tons of things to do. I ended up playing on a consistent basis for nearly 2 years. Even with the release of Battlefield 2142, I found myself playing BF2 more because I thought it was just more fun to play. It was always nice to look up at the top ten to see how the leaders where doing in terms of global score. I knew that I would never get myself up there but it was always nice to compare my stats to theirs to see how well I was doing and if I was better than them. However, nowadays, the top ten is full of exploits and hacks.
It seems that people have found a way to exploit the stats system to the point where there are numerous people with insanely high global scores. They even have a hack out where you can sign in as your name but insert someone elses PID(Player ID) while in a server and whatever you do, stat pad, stat exploit or whatever, will show up on the person's PID that was used. I see a ton of honest players stats ruined because some "person" decided that it would be fun to mess up another players stats just because they can. The sad part of this is that the folks at EA/DICE do not seem to mind considering Battlefield 2 is going on 3 years old so they do not consider it a money maker anymore. I can understand that BF2 doesn't make as much money as it did, say 2 years ago but they can at least keep the stat integrity intact for the people who still play and love the game. They will lose more customers because, apparently, this stat exploit can be done in 2142, although not as severe as BF2.
I hope they can, at the very least, fix the exploit so people can still play if they want to play it for the stat portion of the game. It would be sad to see the game die simply because of a lack of not caring anymore. That would be a shame.
The New X-Play?
by dalger21 on Comments
So, today I finally got a chance to watch the new episodes of Xplay. You know the show with the cute girl and aging guy. Yea, you know the show. Anyway, they decided to completely redo the show. Instead of the normal reviews and previews, they decided to add interviews with game developers, some cut-ins with other members from Cheat! and things of that nature. Whilst I don't mind changes, why on earth would g4tv complete jack up what was working so well for them? The show was funny with their weird parodies of various characters such as Link, Kratos, Stan Lee, etc. Is it me or is Morgan and Adam more nicer to each other? Every cut away is followed by a "thanks insert name here." They never did that before. It is almost like the higher ups made them change their lingo just to satisfy certain individuals. Why can't they just leave well enough alone. Maybe I am just overreacting. The show just seems to take itself too seriously.
It just seems to cater to the coporate folk instead of the gamer. Maybe it will improve in the future. I am not to optimistic on that happening. How sad....
The Online Gaming Experience
by dalger21 on Comments
"Gaming experience may change with online play" This note is on every game box that has online play. This means that while you may have bought the game rated at a PG-13 level, when you log-on to play online, your gaming experience will undoubtly change because there will always be a person who has to spout profanities every time they are killed. It doesn't matter what game you play. From Delta Force 2 to Call of Duty 4, someone some where is screaming curse words like they have been a sailor their whole lives. The sad part about that is the majority of the offenders are minors. Kids below the age of 18 are sprewing extreme hate every time something doesn't go their way. This has become increasingly common amoung the XBox Live crowd as well as the Voice over IP programs out there. And the odd thing is that it doesn't seem to be a big deal with the parents or guardians of these children. I can't fathom why no one is taking control of these people and pulling them aside and letting them know that this is not how a child is supposed to act, especially given that dying in a videogame is not that big of deal.
I don't want to generalize all kids as being foul mouth degenerates because there are, of course, peeps who are more mature than some adults. Also, some of these offenders are adults who can't control their emotions. I play a lot of FPS online and I am amazed at the language of the people who play. I'll admit that I was once one of these people who would, on occasion, use a "dirty word" when I died in a way that was unsatisfactory. However, I did realize that it was only a game and sometimes picking fights over the internet just for the heck of it really didnt make much sense. I am always reminded when I see unnecessary drama between people over the "intraweb"......Internets. It's serious business.
Wii Sports

Another year, another E3 goes by.

Then there is Nintendo and "Wii"(the person who thought that was a clever name needs to be hit by a milk truck. Seriously, what a idiotic name). I can't wait for the new Zelda game and for their own FF game. Also, the ability to download previous hits from their 20 year history will be a good thing.
All in all, I give this years E3 a 3 out of 5.(yes, a bit from X-play). Not as many great games are coming out but hey, what can you do?

PS3
I am really looking forward to their lineup because Sony has usually come with pretty good games when they launch a console. I am disturbed, however, at how much it will cost. Instituting BluRay in their consoles could either be a marketing genius or a fatal flaw. To me, just having a regular DVD player installed would have sufficed since, I just use my own regular DVD player or the one on my computer, to watch movies. I am interested in seeing the Final Fantasy series ported to the PS3. Yes, I am a geek when it comes to FF. Probably a bit too much. Also, with the great ending in KH2(provided you did everything) I am intrigued to see if Kingdom Hearts 3 will either be on the 2 or 3. Enquiring minds want to know.
Rev aka Wii(just terrible)
Aside from the stupid name change, I like what Nintendo is doing with their next gen console. A major selling point to me is the ability to download games from their 20 year history. That is a noval idea. That alone would warrant some serious consideration on my part. I like how the new Zelda is looking. I'm not sure if they should make another Resident Evil game. How can you top RE4? I mean seriously. It was the game of the year last year. I wonder what surprises Nintendo will have at E3. They usually have something crazy to unveil. Interesting...
E3. What a great time to be alive!!
