@Gamer_4_Fun So a 9 out of 10 is somehow a bad review? We can't have a discussion about how women are portrayed in video games?

@TohouAsura This is just plain bigotry, dude. And just plain rude to another human being on top of that.

The article is a well-written piece meant to produce genuine thought and discussion (which is happening in this forum, despite personal attacks like yours). It's not, in my opinion, an attack on men in general, nor a dismissal of anyone's opinions - it's simply an examination of the environment that led the game's developers to "honor the source material" but at the same time not think to include female characters in the game until the last minute, despite the prominence of them in the source material. THAT is the point - how did that situation happen? What was going through the minds of the developers to go down that route? Did misogyny (altho probably not intentional), and or other factors play a part? My guess is yes and Carolyn has succeeded, in my opinion, in getting us to discuss this.

@RAD_RADIO @Conan1985 And there aren't that many in society because...? Not because of any lack of skill or desire. But because of our patriarchal society and wrong-headed or just outright bigoted attitudes about the inferiority of women. When a woman of strength comes to the media's attention, they are all too often ridiculed for being too "manly", or any other number of ways men use to justify the kind of treatment that punishes strong women. The utright bigotry prevalent today is perhaps so core to our patriarchal society that you guys don't even seem to realize you're doing it with these kinds of comments.

It's not about forcibly writing females into games. It's about a society where writing lead characters representative of over 50% of the population is such a rarity that it even needs comment...
