The Samsung is sweet as i have one, there's a whole website dedicated to running non widescreen games in widescreen www.widescreengamingforum.com/ so check it out.

If money isn't a problem you could lookat the new 24" Samsung which is surprisingly cheap compared toother models.

I didn't say reinstall i said unintsall, revert back to the default GFX driver in Vista and see if it lets you pick the correct res. Have you tried the screen on another PC or laptop to see if that allows you to select the correct res?

Are you using XP or Vista? What about unistalling the GFX drivers all together and starting again?

Hmmm, try reinstalling the plug and play driver for your monitor just in case it thinks the old screen is still attached. Failing that reinstall the NVidia driver and see if that has any effect.

Probably not with CoolerMaster cases so if you really want it then buy one to hang on to whenyou see it on offer. Having said that they have just released the Cosmos case which is rather nice and might push the 830 down in price slightly.

Have you set the desktop res to be 1680x1050 if so then it would be worth looking in the monitor menus to see if you can reset it.

1280x1024 is not a widescreen resolution by the way;-)

It should last a while the next Intel processor with the 1333MHz bus should work, maybe with a BIOS update. The next move will be towards DDR3 RAM next year at that point you will need a new mobo if you want to run the new style RAM but i believe it will take a couple of years to reach the mainstream.

I agree with Gekko quads are a waste of money at the mo, especially as the rest of your system only uses mainstream parts. Make sure you wait until the 22nd of April as that's when Intel is cutting its prices.
