Look me up at Gamescom 2011

Hallo an alle!

I'm writing you these lines from a small guesthouse somewhere deep in the german wilderness, where I'm traveling a bit before heading to Cologne for Gamescom 2011. I'll be there from the 16th to 20th (I know, I'll be missing the final day, but what can you do), wandering around the booths, playing awesome games and talking to the cool ppl who make them.

This is my first game convention, so I'm hoping to learn the ropes pretty quickly so I can get the maximum amount of gaming time and see everything there is to see.

If you happen to be there, you can look me up and say hello. Just remember: I'm not as nice in real life, and will probably just stand there and stare at you. If you are not there, I'll make sure to write all of my impressions and post them here in blog form when I get back, for all to read.

That's about it. Really excited about going to Gamescom, and a little bit nervous about doing the whole "journalist thing" for the first time. But then again... Extended demo for Mess Effect 3!

Hoping to stare you down at Gamescom real soon. Have an awesome summer!

Been absent for a while... Back for E3.

Hello fellow gamers.

I haven't been around the site all that much in the last couple of months. As you can see, I've only bothered to update my "now playing list" and to upload the occasional "game ending" video.

I don't know when I'll be back to my old reviewing and bloging self, since I'm entering my "test season" as we call it, so I'll have to put most of my energy into some actual studying instead of gaming. I'm just glad I got to play The Witcher 2 before this dark time, since it is indeed a proper send off, and an amazing role playing game. Go play it now.

Next on my list is L.A. Noire on the 360, but it will have to wait for a better time...

How about all of you? E3 is almost upon us... Excited? I know I am! I'm planning on staying up all night and watch the press conferences, and mark all the new games on my "Tracking" list. Which is your most anticipated press con? EA? Microsoft? Sony? Ubisoft? Microsoft and EA for me... maybe a bit of Konami if there some new info on the new Silent Hill game.

Until next time - hope all of your expectations will come true in E3, and maybe we see loads of new IPs.

BTW, if you're a Hebrew speaker, go check out this new site: Gamerspack.co.il ; there's also an English version (Gamerspack.com) but it's still in the works and doesn't really updates all that much...

Mass Effect 2 Arrival: The Countdown

Those of you who played Mass Effect 2's latest DLC "Arrival" possibly noticed the huge countdown clock welcoming you to the research station-thing right as Sheperd exits the shuttle.
The countdown begins at around 2 days+ and is counting down in real time towards something (not going to spoils towards what).

So if you're like me, your curious to see what the hell happens once the countdown winds down (looking it up on the Internet is for little girls!), and if you are REALLY like me you left the game on for 2 day straight... In about 20 hours I'll witness first hand what the hell happens when it reaches zero, and I'm going to post the result here on my profile (assuming something actually happens).

So, hmm... Stay tuned?

Great expectations

Hello everybody.

I recently played two of my most anticipated games of 2011: Dragon Age 2 and Homefront on the PC. I had great expectations from both of them (for obvious reasons) and both of them disappointed me in one way or another.

Dragon Age 2 is a sequel for one of my favorite RPGs, which I know isn't saying much since I don't play this many RPGs, but I think a lot of people would agree with me that Dragon Age: Origins is a great game. I played Dragon Age four times in a row from start to finish, plus each of the 7 (I think there are 7) origin stories. I created characters like the Tormented Drow Elf (A every dark skinned Dalish with white hair) or the Nudist Human (male) Mage, and my warrior female Dwarf was a beacon of hope during the darkest days of the blight. Dragon Age: Origin was great...

And along came Dragon Age 2, with it's boring story, blend environments and weak characters (except for you Varric). The gameplay was still as fun as I remembered it, and the graphics were indeed a bit better, but in every other aspect is was just weaker than its predecessor. It seemed to me, while I was playing, that the game was rushed, or at least wasn't given enough attention while in development (half-assed, as some would say). I don't know what else to say about it, just that it was lacking and a disappointment.

Now, Homefront is a different story altogether. I enjoyed the campaign very much, even with some weird bugs and the cliché characters. The problem was the length. I breezed through the campaign in two sittings, each no longer than 2 hours (ending video coming soon), and since I don't play online multiplayer, there isn't much for me to do with it now. Another thing, and maybe that's because I'm not American, but the game failed to instill any sympathy in me towards the residents of the occupied USA. It was interesting to read and watch Kaos Studios' vision of the future, but nothing more than that.

Bottom line, two games I was very much excited about turned out be a disappointing experience and not a good way to start 2011 (although Dead Space 2, my first game of 2011, was amazing).

Care to share experiences or thoughts about these games? Any good memories of Dragon Age: Origins? Leave a comment below!

Have a great week everyone, and may your most anticipated games of 2011 live up to all the hype.

Hypocritical me.

Some of you may remember a blog entry I posted a while back, just before E3 2010. It was a list of my top 10 hyped games I was not in the slightest interested in playing. Number one on this list was BulletStorm.

Now, if you look a little the right of the screen, under the Now Playing tab (if you are not on my profile page you'll just have to take my word for it) You'll see I'm currently playing BulletStorm on the PC. Yes, I'm a hypocrite... hooray! I picked up a copy of the game today, and even played for about 20 minutes, just to play around with the configurations a little and see it runs on my PC on the highest video settings (it does), but I haven't dove in yet. I'm saving that for the weekend.

I blame the demo for this sudden change of heart. After playing the demo (on the X360) I completely changed my mind about the game. Yes, it's immature. Yes, it's has stupid dialog. Yes it's not the most original of settings. But the action! Oh, the action! I ran through the demo 3 times in a row, and 2 more times in the following days (plus one more time on a friend's PS3 - what's with the stupid controls? who the hell shoots with the shoulder buttons and not the triggers?!) and I couldn't get enough of the game's fast pace and absurd amount of fun ways to kill your enemies.

I have no idea if the action itself can hold up the entire game (what works for a short demo might not work of a full game) but I owe it to BulletStorm to give it a try, at least once.

Who knows, I might even accidentally have some fun.

As for other games on my list, I've decided to give"Ghost Recon: Future Soldier" and the new Zelda game a chance once they are released. I still not sold on them, but I really should play at least one Zelda game, and Future Solider looks kinda fun.

Until next time, have a blast with this week's action games.

And may March get here fast do I can play Dragon Age 2 and HomeFront already!

Dead Space 2 review is up!

My first review in months (since I reviewed Kane & Lynch 2way back in august) is up on the site, and it's for the great gameDead Space 2. Go check it out.

I also uploaded the game's ending on my profile, but I rather you didn't watch it until you exprience it for yourself. Than come back here and enjoy it again and again like I do.

I've noticed most of my recent reviews are for console games, especially the Xbox 360, which is weird because I play more games on the PC... I wonder why is that...

Sorry for the short entry, but I really just wanted to let you guys know about the review.
Have a nice weekend!

Had enough of RE: Code Veronica. Onwards to Fatal Frame + First game of 2011!

I rarely touch my PS2 these days. It's not because I have nothing to do with it, but mostly because I'm hardly ever around it anymore. It's somewhere in the closet next to the Wii at my gf's house, and when I'm there we usually (by we I when her) use the Wii (ach, Wii...). Plus I have a killer gaming PC and an X360 at home, so...

Anyway, I've been playing RE: Code Veronica X on the PS2 for the last few months, in attempt to catch up on all the Survival-Horror games I missed by not having a PS2 all those years ago, and I wasn't having fun. It was mainly because of the long gaps between each session, and the fact I spent almost half of them trying to figure out where I left off and what needs doing. So I gave it up, and moved on to the next PS2 game on my list: Fatal Frame (yay!).

First off all let me just say I haven't gotten very far (took pictures of a bunch of ghosts and found a red mirror!), but in the very short time I had with it (well, not that short since I died and had to start the whole game over again) I enjoyed myself a lot. The game is actually scary! even though I was playing in the living room with people talking and making noise in the kitchen , the game still grabbed my by the throat with it's great atmosphere and setting.

In other new, I bought myself a copy of Dead Space 2 on the X360, making this game my official "First of 2011" (first game that was released in 2011).

What your first game of 2011? If you still haven't pick up one - what will your first be?

Hope the first month of 2011 for easy on you, and may your game library prosper and your consoles be free of red rings and yellow lights (and whatever the Wii has).

Silent Hill: Downpour music sample.

I've stumbled upon this music sample* from the next installment in my favorite Survival Horror series - Silent Hill: Downpour.

What do you (fans of the series or not) think about it?

I kinda like it, if only for the minimalist, serene vibe it has going on.
I've never heard anything else by the composer (mainly because I don't watch the show Dexter) but I have to say I can imagine myself wandering through the fog of Silent Hill while listening to this.

Tons of new videos and the flu!

Hello everybody!

Just letting you know I've posted a ton of new "Game endings" videos on my page, so go check them out!

On a personal note, I'n currently sick with the flu (at least I think it's the flu) and for some reason I'm unable to sit in front of my PC/Xbox for too long (let alone do anything productive), So until I get better I will be staring at the wall and doing pretty much nothing (yay!). So basically no new videos for a week or so.

Other than that all is well: Started my second year in the university of Haifa, studying for a B.Sc in Information Systems, and I finally resumed shaving!

Hope you are all feeling well and are health enough to game!
