Nostalgia

Well, I beat 2 worlds, so the excitement is over. I enjoyed the game, but it left me missing...a feeling I remember having when playing RPG's from a long time ago. I know this truly dates me, but I began thinking about games such as the Ultima series. I remember pouring over maps, translating languages, puzzling over problems with friends(yes, uber nerd am I).

I know the new RPG's have phenomenal graphics, great combat, smotth movement, etc, but I can't help but feel they are missing something when I think back on the older games. Now, the exception to this for me has been the elder scroll series. Oblivion, morrowind, shivering isles, they all rock. I just want more games like that! Cries out to the god's of development. "My Kingdom for another truly immersive RPG!"

User Game Reviews

I have been relying on gamespot for years now, to provide me with game information, reviews, and updates. In other words, I am like almost every other user on this site. When a new game is coming out, I check out both the GameSpot reviews, and the user reviews to help me decide if I am willing to make my wallet look even more pitifully thin. I have noticed a trend lately regarding the user reviews, that makes them almost useless. The two most prominent examples I can think of to date are the user reviews for Blue dragon and two Worlds.

It is obviously that many of the reviewers have not even seen these games, let alone played them. The review boards instead turn into this battle over people that want to do well, and people that want the game to be a flop. instead of accurate informational reviews, we get users rating the games a 10 or a 1, with no information. it is as if they are casting a vote, rather than actually trying to provide useful information to people considering whether to buy, rent, or ignore a game.

Take Two Worlds for example. The last time I looked at the XBOX 360 reviews, approximately 19% of the users had rated the game abysmal, and another 19% had rated the game perfect. You have reviews stating that this is the best game ever made side by side with reviews stating that it is terrible and should never have been written. While we should all encourage differing opinions, it would be nice if people actually played a game, stated their likes and dislikes, and then tried to offer up a fair and informed opinion. of course, we always have the gameSpot reviews for that.

Ok, thats all....gets off his soap box with a little bow.
