Of course. I have the Panasonic PT-AE900U projector and love it. Panasonic just came out with a new gaming projector for $1,299, the AX200U. You can see it setup here:
Panasonic just came out with a gaming projector at $1,299. I have the older version of this setup in my room, the largest I could project was 120-inches and it was pretty cool. The new version has a lot of upgrades, can been seen in day light and a game mode for better dark details & response time. If you have any questions on mine I can help out.
As far as the DLP vs LCD goes, I tend to like LCD. The colors seem a little more realistic and less 'glowing', a lot of people call that washed out though... I don't know I've never seen a red shirt 'glow' in real life. I didn't mind sticking with 720p for another couple of years, 1080p stuff is still over priced imo. I built a 120-inch home theater with an older projector for less than $3500. The trick is doing as much stuff DIY style. Building your own screen and such.
this is what my home theater living room looked like:
I built a 120-inch screen out of multi-purpose vynal with a wooden frame underneath it for about $100 if I remember correctly. It was definetly under$150 though.
Not sure if your 100% on the 1080, but Panasonic just came out with a gaming projector. I saw this in action at 165-inches for Halo 3, it was pretty cool. 720 is still plenty of HD and will be until 2012 or something like that.
Here is some info on it, with some photos and video
As far as my screen goes, I used a multi-purpose vynal fabric. Constructed the screen frame from 2x4's and stapled the cloth to it from the outer parts of the wood. The 120-inch screen cost me about $100 and the 90-inch screen I made later cost about $50, it was cheaper due to the fact that the fabric I bought fit better width wise. It wasn't larger than the roll so I didn't have to buy 2 strips of cloth.
As far as projectors goes check out ProjectorCentral.com or ProjectorPeople.com. ProjectorPeople.com is have a sweepstakes for the new gaming projector, it's pretty amazing.
I'll second that, the AX200U is absolutely amazing. ProjectorPeople.com happens to be running a sweepstakes to give away a few: http://www.projectorpeople.com/panasonic-pt-ax200u/sweepstakes.asp
