@MJ12-Conspiracy: To my knowledge, GOT stats have been record-breaking this last season. It is true that a lot of people have been complaining about that too, mainly because the storytelling has become rushed and that the dialogue and plot has been simplified in order to do more fan service and epic scenes of battle and the like.
Personally I still enjoy GOT very much though I'm not the fanatic-type to rewatch every episode 20 times and spend hours theorizing on things that not even the writers actually bothered with.
TWD, however, has become rather soapy and the only interesting bits are in the beginning of the season and the end, and even there some things are sooooooo slow, it almost makes you skip through some scenes.
The first two movies probably are at a comparable level to Star Wars from some points of view. After all they are landmarks in the sci-fi horror and sci-fi action genres and beloved classics at this point.
Star Wars just makes tons more money because it can be watched by anyone. You can't take your kids to an Alien movie.
A lot of shows lose momentum along the way. The only ones that don't are very rare exceptions like GoT which pretty much transcended the popularity of the average tv series at any point.
Still, TWD is in it's 8th season and will probably still keep going for a while. Many other shows barely last half of that time.
The fact that the show has become a bit tedious to watch, with filler episodes and a plot that only gets going in the beginning and end of the season is surely a factor for the diminishing ratings.
@lodoss900: Just my opinion here but...did you see how good the movie looked?
I have watched most blockbusters this year (Pirates of the Caribbean, Spiderman, Transformers, Star Wars, etc) and while they all had high quality CGI, a good chunk of the time you knew exactly what was CGI, if you have a modestly practiced eye.
On the other hand, in Blade Runner 2049, the imagery is nothing short of art in some scenes. The special effects blends so well with the scenery and sets, its very difficult to say where one ends and the other begins. The same can be said, in my opinion, of the city vistas and larger open spaces. Already knowing the budget before watching it, halfway through it, I was asking myself how could this have a budget of ONLY $150 million, lol.
I guess my point is that I've seen movies this year with bigger budgets but which couldn't convey even half of what Blade Runner conveyed through its production values.
@Legend_of_Link: Not trying to be a smartass here, just telling my experience. Finished literally everything there is to do in this game in 63 hours, minus 2 elephant battles because I tried a few times each and couldn't beat them. The game's world is amazing and its beautiful to explore around. Unfortunately, its also full of busy-work that doesn't amount to much apart from...keeping you busy.
@lostn: Yeah, it was Pompeii. Those two movies were pretty average. He's still probably best suited to TV roles. A lot of actors, even great ones in a specific tv show just don't transition well to the cinema screen.
Well, its not like he was gonna say "So, in the next and final season, we're going smaller and less spectacular than before". Unfortunately for Kit, I don't think his post-GOT days will be very good career wise. He plays Jon Snow well and had a great break with this role but I've seen him in at least 2 other movies and he is not a very dynamic actor.
Unlike Emilia Clarke, who seems to be getting a stream a big movie roles in the last 3-4 years, and who can be just cast as a love interest instead of a full lead, Kit isn't charismatic or versatile enough to be a crowd-magnet lead. Even so, if he's a smart spender, he probably saved quite a lot from 8 years of being a main character in the most expensive TV series currently on.
@Da_Mulez: I guess it was partly my fault for not expressing myself properly. The only thing I meant was that some people only treat entertainment mediums more lightly and don't take them seriously while others look at them as food for thought or emotional stimulants.
@timmyp1982: I offer some arguments on why a game deserves to be praised and you imply I have no friends. And they wonder why today's society is so fucked up. You should keep your assumptions about people you know nothing about to yourself, buddy.
This game is easily in my top 5 games of this year, probably even top 3. Admittedly it isn't a game for everyone, especially the crowd who cares more about gameplay than story in a video game, or those who aren't very deep thinkers when it comes to gaming. For me, Hellblade was an amazing experience and journey, and I would recommend it to anyone who cares more about story than other elements.
