Back from Vacation

Wow, it's been a while since I posted a blog, so here goes. This is gonna be a short one, though. I just got back from my weeklong vacation at Disney World. It was a very nice time and very tiring walking around the parks for 8 days.

I want to thank @BigC43 -Chris for meeting up with my wife and I at EPCOT on Friday night. Hope we'll get to do it again on our next trip to Disney.

Royal Pains on USA

Have any of you guys and gals watched the show Royal Pains on USA Network? It was on last summer and is starting its second season tonight at 10:00 PM. Once again, I think USA has hit the mark with this show. They consistently have the best original shows on cable and network TV.

While Royal Pains doesn't quite live up to USA's first original show, Monk, or one of it's most popular, PSYCH, it's a solid drama series with a fair amount of comedic moments sprinkled in for good measure.

For those of you who haven't watched the show, Royal Pains is about a young doctor who is ostracized from the hospital he worked at because he allowed a board member of the hospital to die because there was a more critical patient to be saved.Dr. Hank Lawson(Played by Mark Feuerstein) is conned by his brother Evanto go on a vacation to the Hamptons to help get him out of the depressive state since being ostracized.Evan (Paulo Costanzo) gets the two into an exclusive party where a guest falls ill and Hank uses ordinary household objects (ala MacGuyver) to save his life. The party's host makes Hank an offer that he initally refuses, to be a conceirge doctor (hired and paid handsomely by the rich homeowners of the Hamptons to make housecalls so they can avoid hospitals). This sets up the remainder of the season.

Great characters and definitely worth your time to watch at least a few episodes. By the way, MusicMoviesMayhem is giving away a Royal Pains summer prize pack worth $125 and you can enter the contest by clicking on the link above. All Moved In

Hey everyone, here's a quick update on my house. I've got the work done that was necessary for our new house. Also, everything moved in. We have tons of boxes everywhere in the house that have to be unpacked yet. Once that's done, I'll post some new pictures of the house completely full! This is extremely exciting to be a homeowner.

Pictures of the House! (56K Warning!)

As promised in my earlier blog today, here are pictures i took today of our new house. Let me know what you think of them.

FINALLY, I'm a Homeowner!!

For those of you who remember a blog entry from 1 1/2 years ago, I posted how I was buying a farmhouse with 8 acres of land. To make a long story short, I was not able to close on the house due to the ineptitude of the bankrupt owner and the bank that tried to forclose on the property with an active bankruptcy case.

Fast forward to October of last year when we finally decided to give up on the farmhouse and made an offer on another house. This one was a Short Sale, which is not quite at foreclosure but is going to be soon in that stage. Once again, the bank was to blame for us not closing on the house. In this case, the bank shuffled their feet and didn't move quickly enough. Winter came and went, and the plumbing was never winterized (This means shutting off the water from the source inside the house.Secondly, air is blownthrough all the pipes to prevent the standing water from freezing.) This was not done and the pipes burst from the inside, causing about $2000 worth of damage which I was NOT paying to repair.

Fast forward again to February. My wife and I found yet a third house that we really liked and wanted to buy. We entered into a contract and elected to have a home inspection done (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR ANYONE BUYING A HOUSE TO HAVE THIS DONE). The home inspection hires a professional to go through the house and point out any potential concerns relating to the construction, mechanicals, plumbing, etc. of the house. The crawlspace underneath the house was horrible. Debris was littered throughout, rotted wood supports were present, and other problems. There was a huge puddle of water in the basement, which happened due to inadequate drainage on the inside. Needless to say, we got out of the contract to buy this house.

Now, about a month and a half ago, we found a FOURTH house that we liked and wanted to buy. It was on the same street, the construction and structure of the interior were very similar. However, the problems that existed in the crawlspace and basement were nowhere to be found. Jackpot! This is the house that we finally found no glaring issues with and loved even more than the other three previous attempts at purchasing. A year and a half of searching, trying to buy and not being able to, and endless pestering of our real estate agent to show us houses is over.

Pictures will be posted later today or tomorrow!

New GS User Profiles

I think the Raptr partnership has given a much needed facelift to the Profile appearance. I definitely like the new Level progress bar with percentage. It's easier to understand and easier on the eyes. The "achievements" part is still too new to pass judgment on. Anyone else want to weigh in with an opinion?

6 Years!!!

So tomorrow is my 6 year anniversary as a member of the Gamespot community. I couldn't believe it when I looked at my stats just now. To have dedicated that much of my life to an online community like this is just an amazing accomplishment. Sure, I've been on social networks that long but those aren't nearly the same as this.

Thank you to every one of my friends on here for sharing details of your lives and allowing me to be a small part of it.

Lifetime Membership to STO for $239.99??? A Great Deal?

Cryptic is offering a special preorder bonus to Star Trek Online subscribers. Until February 1, you can purchase a lifetime subscription to the game for $239.99. Not only does it include lifetime access to play the game, but it comes with exclusive perks not available any other way. A special playable character, a Starfleet captain reclaimed from the Borg (like Locutus of Borg) and two additional character slots. So should I do this, to me it seems like a heck of a deal. What do you think?

Operation "Play STO on Laptop" Successful

I love preordering games sometimes. Really... One of the perks for preordering Star Trek Online was a key to access the two week open beta for an opportunity to try out the game early. I have successfully been able to download the beta, with the third website mirror that I tried. File Planet, you suck for non-subscribers! Just thought I'd throw that out there. Anyway, I have played through the first couple missions that the beta includes (tutorial stuff, of course, no open exploration yet) but the game seems to be running quite well on my laptop, exactly what I had hoped for. I think I may have found a new addiction, my first serious foray into MMO gaming. In the past, I tried playing Asheron's Call but didn't have a credit card to continue playing nor a decent enough computer to run it.

Is anyone else out there going to be getting into the game and want to be in a party/clan with me? Please let me know if you want to do this.
