Exactly right on the WiiU, I told my wife the WiiU is coming out this year. She said "Is that something for the Wii". The Wii was a fad for the casual & non gamer. People that really aren't into games get bored with Wii Sports and dance games after a short time (my wife). Getting non-gamers to use your console for an extended period requires multiple forms of entertainment. My wife uses the xbox everyday for netflix and hulu, the Wii collects dust.
@suplax I'll back up cephas, the first Riddick game on the original xbox was very good, probably better than the Chronicles of Riddick movie. I can't say about the newer game, never played it.
I agree they will have a tough time if the cheapest bundle is over $300. The current economic conditions won't allow for a system launch at $400, $500, or even $600 as we saw with the launch of the 360 and PS3. I wonder it this is why Sony and MS aren't interested in launching new systems anytime soon.
@Bankai_Byakuya Are you watching the same video as me? It's got a turbo bar, ridiculous slides, jumps, and takedowns... this is arcade to the 10th degree. It's not a bad thing, it looks fun, it's just about as far from sim as you can get.
Great article! The best trailer's I've seen have been Watch Dogs and Halo 4. Granted, Halo is fairly scripted but it was gameplay (wee rehearsed) and there we're no QTE's. Watch Dogs was just amazing although that must have been running on a high-end pc, no way the xbox or ps3 could look that good.
400 full time employees seems highly excessive for what essentially was a start up company. Call me out if I'm wrong but didn't Bungie have a staff of around 100 when they were at MS. Same goes for T10 with Forza. You have to contract out some of the overload work during development... you can't hang on to everyone through the off-cycle years.
Obviously I don't know the details but seems like patents on video decoding and wifi connection should become obsolete. Isn't this technology extremely common now? I know this is an exaggeration but it's sounds almost like someone getting a patent on circuits that run on 110 watt electrical outlets and then making everyone who makes something that uses electricity pay them.
