@plm3d_basic precedent would cover the other services if this went through.

@lorider25 While games are all developed on PC's it doesn't mean they are all optimized to play well, or even at all on the PC. Being on Unreal engine though, it shouldn't be too much to get a port across after Microsoft realizes folks aren't paying for a game from a console two generations ago, to be played on a console that's now one generation behind.

Do you remember the bands that innovated grunge? Well every non-grunge fan remembers Nirvana. You remember Metallica during the thrash metal years? That's nice, everyone else knows them for the more mainstream sound of Enter Sandman. It's not necessarily the innovator who gets the credit, it's often the person who does it better or more mainstream. It's not a judgement on who was better even. The innovator could have had an awesome idea and terrible execution, or was genius from the start but ahead of the times. Yeah, Angry Birds is a ripoff of a hundred games like it, but Angry Birds does it well, makes it look cute and fuzzy, and then sells it to nearly everyone in a massive market. And if Angry Birds isn't a real videogame, neither are the games they ripped off. I find it difficult to find fault with a business that can find what a large customer base wants, and give it to them. Think about it this way, it may not be the best game or even close, but it may be the best game that's been played by the part of the 400 million audience that aren't traditional gamers. Personally, I wonder what would happen if you packed in a AAA title, pre-installed on every new computer that's able to run it well. My guess, we'd bemoan the bloatware, and everyone else would just enjoy themselves with the free fun.

Oh and the reason Halo didn't make the list, it's on a DOA console, and it's been out for 7 years now.

If I'm not mistaken, Halo was one of the first big-budget-blockbuster console games to use what has become almost the industry standard console fps control scheme. Has anyone else tried playing a pre-Halo fps on a console lately? Some of the games had good control schemes in their own right, but so many more were resigned to the bargain bin because you couldn't get nearly as good a feel for shooting guys as you could on a Computer. Yes, I realize a computer still has better fps control, but at least consoles are not maddeningly bad at it anymore. See how long it takes you to name the top-5 pre-Halo console shooters, you'll see what I mean (I vote Duck Hunt). Besides that everything else in Halo had been done before, but Halo wasn't just the best game on Xbox for 2-3 years, it was THE REASON many people decided to buy the console. It took all the pieces and got them mostly right. Of course, I'll take my Half-Life and Doom any day of the week.

Heh, but heck if anyone knows how to tap all the proccessing power of Cell. Deveolping a game taking full advantage of the PS3's full ability is just not economically justifiable right now.

My chupacabra loves rumble, and there are some scenes from games that I just can't remember without feeling the rumble in my hands. Can you picture going up the first Elevator in Metal Gear Solid 1 without rumble turned on? And then that helicopter... Rumble just seemed to make some scenes more cinematic and immersive at the same time. Rumble turned some otherwise mundane moments into classic memories. That said, I think they could probably have improved the controller more than just by adding rumble back. One suggestion I'd agree with is concave triggers. The current PS3 analog triggers just don't feel right for me often enough. The concave triggers I've used, back to the old Nintendo light gun, the trigger grasps your finger and provides a more comfortable feel in my opinion.

Heh, anyone trying to keep a secret FF7 remake a secret would have their head explode. As soon as you read a headline about some poor schmuck exec for Square's head exploding, you'll know the game is in the works. The more people who are in on a secret, the more likely it is to leak. Now just think about how many people would have to be in on the FF7 remake to do it right... Your head explode yet? The real worries for me... Would it feature the same combat system as last time? Would they have to radically change the minigames? Why oh why did they have everyone leaping around like frogs in that movie? Will the cutscenes be just as moving the second time around or will the full voice acting and "well designed" characters take away from the charm? Oh and how annoying would they make Yuffie and Cait Sith's actors? Can't wait for the first true next gen Final Fantasy.

This almost feels like they are putting out a rig with next generation's tech in an early form, trying to recoup some of the money to design it from early adopters and the few who can actually put it to use. Unfortunately, like it mentioned in the article, the earliest rigs to hit the market of a generation from now rarely get enough support later from new chips, etc. To the extent that it may have such upgradability issues, this is almost more of a console except running Windows. When this amount of tech finally hits the regular market, expect something more energy-bill friendly, and powered to the correct level for the current (at the time) generation of gaming. Eventually we may end up with programs that can actually use 8 cores. I'd hate to be the one programming for it though.
