Tried it, didn't like it. Didn't renew XBL, especially after they jacked the price up $10 without really changing anything.I think so and I say that as hardcore SP gamer. There is no way I will ever shift to a full MP guy but to totally ignore online because you want to latch on to the past for nostalgia is not right either. Games like Demon's Souls and Journey convinced me you can enjoy online play and SP at the same time while Uncharted titles and such shows that co-op is amazing fun. Really there is no excuse for SP gamers to not try online gaming.

Because of greed, and more importantly, because they can.
Trust me, if other industries could attack/kill used goods, like the video game industry has, they would.

It's greedy for the developers to want to have more control over their intellectual properties?
Considering video games are more popular and profitable now than they ever have been, I'm going to say yes.[QUOTE="lundy86_4"]So? MS and Sony aren't making any money off of it...[QUOTE="Stinger78"]
Yep. The used market is fantastic for finding older titles.

All comapnies exist to make a profit for their shareholders, the games industry dosn't exist to make games it exists to make a profit. Lots of gamers will be unhappy if used game sales are abolished. Unhappy customers=less customers= less profit. Some won't buy next gen or will have less incentive to buy new games if they abolish used games. What's unclear is how many customers would bail if they got rid of used games, and whether it would still be a profit or loss for the companies.Because the greed that plagues this industry has gotten out of control

[QUOTE="Second_Hokage"]I dunno about you, but I can still buy new copies of Uncharted 1, Resistance 1 and the first Motorstorm game and those were more or less launch titles. If you want to make an argument against the issue at least make one that makes sense. I still buy PS1 games (used obviously). What if I want to buy a PS4 game 10-15 years after the gen is over?Arn't they screwing us? What if i want to buy a 3-4 year old game that is out of print and can only be bought used?

I don't see how any reasonable person can make a big deal out of a totally subjective 4% gap in "quality".

This x2. Sounds like the OP connects his sense of self-worth to his console purchase of choice. Scary that he has the audacity to call another member a loser.Your post fails because used games are a physical object, same as used DVDs, and yet you try to say one is acceptable but not the other. I know of no method for digitally downloading used games. If there is one, please inform me.[QUOTE="dirtmcgirt2004"][QUOTE="peterw007"]
You can't even begin to compare physical objects to digital works.
Physical DVDs / Blu-rays are only a medium to convey the intellectual property, much like a plate exists as a vehicle to contain food.
-
Physical objects degrade with use, making them less valauble.
An intellectual property remains exactly the same whether 3 months or 30 years old.
Theoretically there's no reason why used games should exist, as used games never depreciate in quality.
-
Now if an intellectual property is out of print and the developer doesn't wish to make use of their copyright, then I say more power to the people to trade the intellectual property amongst themselves.
But while the developer still wants to make money off of the product, used game sales and piracy are unacceptable.

As I just mentioned, the idea of a "used game" is completely ludicrous.
Remember, my definition of a game is not a degradable plastic disk, but an intellectual property.
I'm not saying that developers should charge full price for a new game 5 years down the road, as that would be silly.
But it's still the same game as it was five years ago.
There's no reason for it to become "used."
-
You assume that you have to have a degradable disk in order to have a game.
That's just not true.
Many cartridges still work perfectly 20-30 years after they were initially released.
A cartridge that still works 20-30 years later is just as "new" as a cartridge released yesterday.
Do you get it?
Yes, but I still fail to see how that differs from movies or books or any other intellectual property in physical form. Provided they're taken care of, these items can last just as long as video games. My point was that this industry is the only one currently cracking down on the used marketplace.This. I don't see Ford going to desperate measures to stop used car sales. Even Hollywood (as much as I hate them) hasn't tried to take down the used marketplace.[QUOTE="dirtmcgirt2004"][QUOTE="BigBoss255"]I'm so sick of these companies that make millions trying to make people feel sorry for them. If I buy a TV, car, toilet paper then I have the right to re-sell them. WTF should a video game be any different.peterw007

If there is one, please inform me.I grew up playing consoles that didn't have multiplayer and single player was always my first love, with a good bit of splitscreen every now and then. When Xbox came out with live, I thought it was intriguing and enjoyed Halo 2 for a bit. I really feel no need to play multiplayer at all these days, unless it's with friends. I'd rather not play with randoms. What I really find interesting is why this bothers you?do you think this is true? are singer-player only gamers dinosaurs in this day & age? if you don't play on live, psn, or pc online are you like a blast from the past?
do single player only gamers need to get with the times?
