[QUOTE="ps3-nikita"]Please dont buy that propaganda. Massive restrictions that Nintendo put on 3rd parties, I am talking the illgeal means. Did nothing but hurt the industry of teh competition it deserved, in both teh console space and handheld space. Nintendo did ths because they were getting their asses handed to them in Japan. They still had pull and it was with the Snes, you saw these restrictions come into full effect. Which is why in America and Europe it was far more of a 2horse race then it was in Japan. When games came out on the 3 consoles it wasnt always bset on Snes or Megadrive. Btw SF2:CE was 1st on another system and still played pretty sweet on the GT handheld.HoffgodNintendo getting their asses handed to them in Japan? What? The NES had a dominant market share in Japan and the SNES outsold the Genesis by 17 million. As for why it was more competitive in the US than in Japan, it's because Sega of America was far more competent at marketing their product than Sega of Japan. As for the restrictions, yes the restrictions placed by Nintendo of America were illegal. They violated anti-trust laws. However, I did not dispute the illegality, I disputed the motivation and the impact it had. If anything, it served to promote competition. If Nintendo hadn't been so heavy handed, 3rd parties wouldn't have jumped to Sega as much. Besides, it was as Sega was growing competitive that Nintendo of America, the ones who did the restrictions on third parties, dropped the restrictions and took the 10NES chip out of the redesign of the NES.
Nintendo showed you with the gamebois what they would do with the console space, if they had teh chance. Snes wouldnt have come out when it did, they would have milked the nes for alot longer. Thank goodness for the other 2 companies that kept pushing the console industry further. I thank MSX Pionneer for jumping to digital format in laserdisc and PC Engine for pushing the cd format. I also thank them for pushing colour handhelds when a certain company wanted to push the same b&w graphics from the single handheld games. ( I only rate 2 colour handhelds of that era) I also thank them for being the 1st to push home console quailty graphics on a handheld, in the same generation and being true meaning to the term capatable. Not forcing people to buy the same game twice for almost the same money, with a graphical downgrade or just so you could use the handheld as a poor gaming extension (ie map or something lame).ps3-nikitaNintendo showed with the Gameboy they have an understanding of the market and gear their product towards the market, not what technology can be done. The GameGear was more powerful than the GameBoy and had a color screen. It also ran for only 6 hours off of 6 AA batteries, an unacceptable rate, making it unviable for the market. I guess it offends you that Nintendo practice smart business sense. Then again, the genius of Lateral Thinking of Withered Technology is not readily apparent to some. Also, why do you thank systems for making poorly planned and executed machines. So the MSX Pionneer used laserdisc format. So the PC Engine pushed the CD format. Both attempted to use a format that were unready to be utilized for videogaming and delivered low quality experiences compared to the cartridge format of the time. So what does it all boil down to? You're a technophile, through and through, out of touch with reality and damning of everything that doesn't agree with your bleedingedge desires. You condemn Nintendo for not doing what other companies did with their systems with formats which were unready for videogame usage by the mass market. You praise other companies for pushing for more space, more colors, but ignore Nintendo for their advancements, like the D-pad, the first analogue stick, the first rumble, and the first mainstream use of touch screen technology in a video game system. Until you can get over your obsession with the latest and greatest and see things more practically, then we have nothing to discuss. damn, that is one awesome reply.... OWNAGE APPROVED
